From The Times:
Ronaldo has been at pains to stress that he and Rooney remain close friends and that there was nothing underhand about his supposed involvement in the incident. Speaking on the website of the Gestifute agency, his representatives, Ronaldo said the pair have been in regular contact since the end of the match and have cleared the air.
"The things that have been said regarding me and my team-mate and friend Rooney are incredible," he said. "Between me and Rooney, there is absolutely no problem."
"At the end of the game, we sent each other some text messages," he continued. "Everything has been cleared between the two of us. He wished me the best of luck in the World Cup. He told me we had a great team and that if we continued to play like this, we would go far.
"He wasn't angry with me and moreover, he told me to completely ignore what the English press has said, that all they wanted was to create confusion but we are already used to that."
Ronaldo said he had warm exchanges with his United team-mates before kick-off.
"Before the game, I spoke in the tunnel to my club team-mates Gary Neville, Rio Ferdinand and Rooney," he said. "We had a nice chat and we wished each other good luck."
Ronaldo insisted he was not to blame for Rooney's dismissal. "I am not a referee and I don't have the power to send off a player," he said. "I had nothing to do with the fact that the referee showed the red card."
Ronaldo also took the opportunity to deny speculation that he will leave Old Trafford this summer, despite reports that he is keen to join Real Madrid. "There have been comments published in which I reportedly said that I didn't want to go back to Manchester United," he said. "That is completely false. Of course I want to go back."

I'm not too sure what too believe at the moment. One newspaper says hes agreed to go to madrid, then Sir Alex says hes going no-where, then Ronaldo apparently says it is true that he's leaving, then a few days later he says its all bullshit...the whole thing with ronaldo is a joke at the moment.
If he was sent out by Scolari to get Rooney sent off, then send the blighter to Real Madrid, but if he was putting his heart into Portugal winning then I can't blame him. But he was treading on a fine line

Its hard but i believe the players over the press....its a direct quote saying he wants to stay so ill believe that over anything they say about im wanting to leave, it will be more interesting when Rooney says his share, if it lines up with Ronaldo then all should be fine and dandy.
I dont think he was pushing the ref for a card just enforcing the fact that it was a foul

To be fair the TImes is a fair bit more reliable than what's printed the other stories such as the Mail and the Mirror, especially the latter.
We probably won't know for sure untill they're back at Old Trafford the lot of them and we're getting the new lads in.

I'm optimistic for the day when footballers say 'no comment thankyou'. Or better yet say nothing.

As far as I'm concerned, the sooner Ronanldo goes to Madrid the better. A disgrace.

Because he was concerned about the welfare of his stricken team mate? that's why he said 'foul, foul, red card' that's how you show concern it seems.

Although its not obvious Rooney went all the way down and really had a good stamp, only 2 people will know but i'm guessing from Ronnie's view at the time it looked like a right good stamp.

No....the reason why is because he wanted to get Rooney in trouble and ultimately sent off. The Portugese way I suppose. Every United fan who I've spoke to feels the same because at the end of the day, we'd al rather have Wayne Rooney than Ronaldo who in my eyes has tarnished his image completely.

Rooney would have done the same if the other way around. Ronaldo does dive, and he makes some cheap shots, but not his fault Rooney got sent of and Rooney knows that. IF Ronaldo stays at Old Trafford it will get sorted between the players, unless it already has been. They're just two kids getting excited playing tor their country, why are people even bothering arguing about this still untill we know what will happen/

Just think what it must have been like being Wayne Rooney. Playing in the World Cup finals for the first time in probably the biggest match of his career with all the expectations on him. Then, his team mate helps to get him sent off. How would you think Wayne must feel about that? Pretty good? Don't think so. I am more concerned with dressing room harmony than Ronaldo. WE all know what happens when the dressing room atmosphere is soured a la Keano/RVN. It's not good for team morale. It really is such a shame - I've always thought highly of Ronaldo - great skill but cannot cross a ball. I suppose it all comes down to what Rooney feels. However, the honeymoon is now over for Ronaldo as far as I'm concerned. If he does stay at United, he'd better be damn good this season.

Wayne is a proffessional, as a pro he should be able to deal with it, It might have been the biggest match in his career this far, however he has at least another 2 or maybe 3world cups to go. He'll have plenty of big matches, AND guess what, he'll get over this.

while i have said in past posts i felt ronaldo did want to join madrid i also said i wanted him to stay and refute these claims coming from madrid and as far as im concerned this is a welcome piece of good news for utd and hopefully the start of an exciting pre season for utd where we will see the squad grow rather than be depleted, i just hope those fans who wanted ronaldo to leave can get behind him now after all if this is true and rooney has no problem theres no reason anyone else should, of course we still want to hear off rooney and i guess this wont be the end of the matter be lets be positive, id much rather believe this than anything about him leaving.
