Reds legend Paddy Crerand says Cristiano Ronaldo has been the subject of a media witch-hunt from the England press following his immediate reaction to Wayne Rooney's World Cup sending off.
There has even been quotes attributed to Ronaldo saying he wants to leave United because of the fear of the reaction in England to the incident.
Crerand, a European Cup winner with the Reds in 1968, feels Ronaldo has been treated unfairly by the English press.
"Since the game against England the press have carried a campaign against him," he told MUTV.
“I just think the press have not let it go. They’re now taking the Mickey. When they behave like this, I can understand how Luiz Felipe Scolari felt when he went for the England job and then the next minute the press are banging down his door. "That's the problem with the English press, they all want to have a go," Crerand added.
Ronaldo, who was influential in Portugal claiming fourth place in the World Cup finals in Germany, is due back in Manchester on 24 July to begin pre-season training.

Yeah, it's amazing what the power of the media can do. They turn an incident and a player into the reason for England's failure in the WC.

Yeah, it's amazing what the power of the media can do. They turn an incident and a player into the reason for England's failure in the WC. Its a very English trait we love to blame someone to cover any failure that happens to us and im sure Cristiano is public enemy no .1 .The incident is over and Utd need its most valued assets for the up coming season.

I'm a United fan and I hope we sell Ronaldo for a lot of money. The images of Ronaldo that I have in my mind are: Free Kicks ---"oh dear, there's another ball gone into stand 42" and CROSSES: "Ronaldo beats one man, then another, and another....he can see Saha in the box...Ronaldo crosses - oh dear, it didn't clear the first man". To play for Man Utd, you have to be a SPECIAL player..not just gifted technically but have integrity.....Ronaldo has no integrity...........

I've had a few drinks with Paddy in the past (my mates missus who I've talked about who works at United, well he is good friends with Paddy, and meets him once a week/fortnight for a drink) and he's a proper red. I'm pleased to see true reds talking out about Ronaldo's treatment. There have been too many Mirror readers who have laid in to Ronaldo, and it's good to see somewho, a celeb, who is red to their core (which I KNOW he is) speak somewhat in the defence of Ronaldo.

Integrity isn't something you're born with, it something you learn. Just like most things in life, everything is a learning process. Ronaldo divesat times and he might argue with the odd ref here and there, but he's not grown up in England. The football mentality in England is very different from that in southern Europe where diving is very much a part of the game. It's up to Sir Alexs to take Ronaldo and teach him how to behave on and off the field, and since playing at United he has been improving. However when Ronaldo is playing fir his country, he's not our responsibility and it shouldn't reflect on him as a United player. As for his crossing and free kicks... When Becks left and we got Ronaldo, people expected him to be the new Beckham for United. He was never going to be, and his standars fell below those of Becks, nor could he work with Neville the way Becks did. HOWEVER, it took Becks years to learn and perfect his play, Ronaldo now has to do the same.

What utter shite is being written about our clubs players. Its not a new phenomenon, but hell it's really pissing me off. I'm gonna stop buying papers unless they have fish and chips wrapped up in um. Fuck the media ! #furious#
Here's some of their shite......... He's Ronning Scared Cristiano Ronaldo has told Sir Alex Ferguson he fears for his life if he stays at Manchester United. The Portugal star’s worries were outlined by his agent as United stood firm and refused to let him leave. His representatives believe a genuine security threat could give him grounds for breaking his contract after the Wayne Rooney bust-up at the World Cup. But Fergie sought to reassure Ronaldo that his security will not be at risk during talks with his agent Jorge Mendes. Gordon Smart & David Facey, The Sun THE SCUM ( you notice it took two to write! Numbty dick journalists!

Some Dirty Dipper once said "Football is not a matter of life and death, it's more important than that" Being a fcuking dipper I doubt it would matter if you were alive or dead. To the tune of Ring of Fire "Michael Shields got 15 years" Its unreal how people take football into a matter of life and death, I remember when it was a game we just all enjoyed playing and watching!
