Would you drop Rooney?
Not sure where ya thread went 7even?
Nearly hairless from the way England utilised him already mate.
When United are playing well then certainly rest him against the lesser or rather play him from the start and take him off when were winning LIKE WE USED TOO and not have em on the bench bringing him on with 20 mins to go to try and get the result like we have the past couple of seasons with lesser opposition.
As for who Id drop him for, Id say Rossi if he's up for it next season purely for the positions he takes up it would be like for like in that sense to an extent.
What Id like to see next season is what we caught a few glimpses of at the latter of last season against B'ham at home when Ruud was axed/dropped/rested Richardson, Ronaldo, Rooney and Saha all breaking from midfield at the same time.
NO DEFENCE COULD COPE WITH SUCH SPEED AND ABILITY WHEN WE ATTACK LIKE THAT.
Brought back memories of the Giggs, Sharpe, Kanchelskis days

I’d drop Rooney against the ‘’lesser’’ teams. Then unleash him against the tougher teams, but a lad of his age needs to be playing. Though at the moment it isn’t even debatable about dropping him, we’ve not got a team to compete for glory now, never mind without him.
I’ve always said the best form of defense is attack. But if we don’t bring in new players, I don’t want to see Fletcher and O’shea bombing it towards Chelsea’s back line, do you? Ha ha.

Lol dont count out Fletchers ability to bomb.....Ok count it out!
We need to play the way we used to, watching us in seasons past we were scary going forward, the team against Bayern in 99, were immense, the confidence, the way the all just went forward as if to say, Were going to score, whether you like it or not, if theres 1 minute left, we can still score so up yours
We need that back, at the moment, we need Rooney for it, though i dont want him to get burned out, so resting him when were winning etc is important

United used to be ‘’ you score 2 we’ll score 3, you score 4 we’ll score 5 ‘’ when teams came to OT, the atmosphere was electric, deafening, teams were scared stiff of facing us at home. Afraid to say that isn’t really the case anymore.

I'd let Rossi rotate with him against the lower sides, give Rooney a rest. All depends how well we do in the FA cup and Europe, if we fail again he won't be needing a rest lol.

Problem with Rooney would be, it is very difficult to rest a player who doesn't want to be rested.

If Rooney has the engine.....let him play. Protect him aginst the choppers and hackers FC. Let the lad play, it's all he wants to do.

I'd say rotate him and Rossi, harsh on Rossi i know.. and let Saha, RVN or whoever is left after the summer compete alongside.
Solskjaer will probably be used more on right mid depending how he goes, just maybe upfront.

Rooney wants to be out there every match making things happen and I don't think we need to stifle his drive, but we need to get the younger players some playing time as well so I think against less threatening opposition he can be on the bench and brought on if needed.

if i was the manager i'd hate to put rooney on the bench he'd be sat there the entire game just muttering "let me at 'em let me 'at em" i certainly couldn't drop him, the boy just wants to play football and to see his face when i deny him that would break my heart

Drop Rooney? In a word, no. Never. For a couple of reasons. 1. Rooney is PISSED everytime he gets substituted. PISSED. If he can play 90 minutes week in week out, wants to play for 90 minutes week in week out, then we should let him. 2. There are no "weaker teams" anymore. Sure, in the 90s we could start with half our first team missing. That's not how it works anymore. Look at our results from last season against "weaker teams" with our first choice XI on the field, let alone without our best player.

Drop him if he's playing shit (very unlikely to ever happen ), rest him when he needs to be rested. He looked tired near the end of last season and it started to affect his performance.

Drop Rooney??...eh, NO
He won't play every game this season though, as Ferguson likes to rotate the squad..i can see Saha or Rossi coming in, in various games.
