Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will have a scan on Sunday to determine the extent of the knee problem he sustained at Liverpool. Rooney, injured when he went in for a tackle with Jamie Carragher, appears to be doubtful for Wednesday's crucial Champions League tie with Lille.
"Wayne will go for a scan," manager Sir Alex Ferguson told the club website.
"It was a bad tackle - Carragher got him right on the knee. We'll have to see how he is."
Rooney was substituted after 73 minutes of the Premiership match at Anfield and replaced by John O'Shea, who scored the late winner in United's 1-0 victory.
United lead 1-0 after the first leg of their European tie with Lille, Ryan Giggs scoring a late goal with a quickly taken free-kick.

from BBC website Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has recovered from a knee injury and is fit to face Lille in the second leg of Wednesday's Champions League tie. The 21-year-old had a scan after he was hurt in a challenge with Jamie Carragher in the win at Liverpool. But manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Wayne is fine now and will be fit for selection. We have a couple of doubts but Wayne is not one of them." But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sidelined as United look to protect a 1-0 lead. He is out for three weeks following knee surgery, However, Ferguson can pick from Rooney, Henrik Larsson and Louis Saha to lead the attack in the last-16 encounter at Old Trafford. Rooney will be looking for his first goal in the Champions League since he scored a hat-trick on his debut against Fenerbahce in September 2004. news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/6416969.stm

Reds hit by injuries
Louis Saha is out of United's Champions League clash with Lille on Wednesday night, while Paul Scholes and Patrice Evra are both doubtful.
Saha has gone for a scan after picking up a knock and fellow countryman Evra missed training on Tuesday morning.
There was further bad news for the Reds after Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed Darren Fletcher's ankle injury is worse than first thought. The Scottish international missed United's 1-0 at Anfield at the weekend but was expected to return within two weeks.
However, a scan has highlighted damage to the ankle ligaments and Fletcher is now likely to miss the remainder of the season.
"Darren went for a scan earlier this week," revealed Sir Alex at his pre-match press briefing. "The news wasn't good. He'll be out for two months. It's a blow for the lad."
The Reds are already without Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the next three weeks following a minor operation on his knee.

not good news at all. I really like Evra and he's been helpful getting the attack going from the back, but at least we have Heinze. Carrick will need to step it up and should be ok and we'll probably see a Rooney/Larsson strike force...Smith on the bench I imagine.

Saha will be important in the run in. It's a bad time for injuries to appear. I just hope these injuries don't stop and break our Premiership and Champions league ambitions. Don't forget that the year we won the treble was marred by many injuries and so it just might be our year and anything Man utd accomplish is always done the hard way. I ask myself if it's in our tradition?

Disappointing to hear about Saha, but we'll manage. What Lille would give for Rooney and Larsson up front! lol.
