First half shit, but nothing to panic about. Fergie must have got stuck into them in the half time break and it was deserved.
The second half was satisfactory, we know United can play better but the main thing is they done the job. 3 points is what we needed and 3 points is what we got. What a goal by Saha, eh?...and a clean sheet something we haven't had since the Spurs victory.
Same again versus Copenhagen at Old Trafford and we're virtually through.
Well done to the boys and Fergie.

Horrible, horrible… the thread that is… nothing worse than reading over 6/7 pages of ‘’ Aww’’ …. ‘’ Good job ‘’…. ‘’Aw, it’s a corner ‘’ …. ‘’Oh referee’’…thank heavens a certain somebody wasn’t here, it would have been 14 pages of it.
Each half told a different story, as someone already mentioned. I will never stick by the decision of putting Rooney out wide.
Saha turned up when it mattered.

Just the result we needed, pleased with that. We were pretty bad in the first half, dont know what that formation was all about. Benfica ran themselves ragged for the first 45 minutes, and you just knew if they went in without scoring at half time they weren't going to get anything from the game. No way they could have kept up that tempo for a whole game.
Great to see Saha score again. After just 2 games he's scored more than Ruud did throughout the competition for us last season. Heinze looked really good. Great to see Smithy back. Just one more game with no Ryan, and then maybe, just maybe, we can get back to a more familiar formation.
Not our best performance, but we looked a hell of a lot more competant once we went a goal up.

I guess its the result that counts. we'll need to be better next round. looking forward to Giggsy getting back. always think we look better playing with two good wingers. Good result. It could have easily gone tits up.

The first half IS something to panic about, definately something that needs to be sorted out, our passing positioning and firt touch is SHIT. We looked like a team who doesn't train together, it was the same at Arsenal so it's something to worry about, because we were luck not to go behond to Benfica, but if we are serious about challanging for anything this season we need to sort it out, because Barca would have scored 3 or 4 against us tonight!

I think you could tell Giggs was missed, but besides that, I'm happy with the result. The first half was very poor, but, I don't think Benfica every looked like scoring.
Does every Portugese team play 4-6-0?

We weren't very good tonight but a wins a win so I can't complain. Its not an easy place to go to and to come home with three points is pleasing.

I think Fergie wanted Ronaldo and Rooney to push back their right/left back respectively, because as you saw they were instrumental in Benfica's attack. Also having Saha, Rooney, Scholes & Ronaldo all up together, well as we saw against Fulham they were devastating it never worked and it changed in the second half.

We just need to be more patient at times, keep the ball better, make the oposition work a bit more, esp against top side who will just knock it about.

We also didn't have Park who is not equal to Giggs but would probably have been keeping the Benfica defense busy and freeing up Rooney to create more chances.

Happy with the result but not the performance, we were awful in the first half and I feared the worst. We came out and started better and thankfully Saha got a bit of luck and stuck the ball in the back of the net which shut up the crowd and settled us down. We still need to improve but at least we got the result and are a step closer to qualifying which is something I suppose.

I think the important thing to remember about our performance this match is that while we did have a first bad half we had the talent and ability to turn it around later. Benfica had a lot of possesion the first 45 but didn't look to sharp in front of goal.
