A huge boost for united from this was Saha performance. I assume few fans would doubt his regular goal scoring ability in the prem, but now hes displayed he can produce a moment of magic in a tough game (well it was hostile) to get the result for united.

He's heading for the sack? yes I forgot, we're out of the CL and battling in the relegation zone aren't we. Sir Alex would never get sacked, and he deserves a hell of a lot more respect than people calling for his head when in fact we have not done that badly. People go on and on about how Chelsea get loads of points, when people point out that although they might get the points they've not already deserved to get them, they get "yes but getting the points, whether you deserve it or not, is what matters" thrown back at them. We have lost one match this far, drawn one, both of which where tough matches, we've not lost 10straight and are facing relegation. We'll be in October soon, and we have most of the season left. A tad too early to be calling for the head of someone who made United the club they are.

I think you are wrong, utd was made what they are by Busby, way before fergie, this man took us from a yoyo club to being the most famous club in the world, fergie has won more i know, but dont say he made us what we are, we were already made when he arrived

7even wrote It confirmed by worst fears (I have hopes for the team too) - that we are sliding year on year. Seroius investment is needed in the team - but how can we know it will? This summer was a transfer fiasco of the worst order. We alone amongst top clubs in Europe managed just one outfield purchase - the failure backed up by some bullshit reasoning about "trusting" our squad. But we are now a mixed bag of great players, good players and - in O Shea, Fletcher and - sorry -Smith and Solsjaer average players in the matchday squad with the average one's likely to play throughout the season. Our power as a club is waning year after year - S A F seems to be in denial about this proveable FACT. The only hope to get closer to our free-spending rivals is to invest in the team.
The 76,000 capacity stadium is a huge plus - but we need some quality players and to consign the transfer season paralysis and caution to history. If not, we are not doomed. Just putting our status in the Premiership Top 2, and European Top 8 in severe jeapordy[/i]
- Couldn't of put it better myself, spot on about the squad, someone said in reply that the squad depth was ok then claims because we have 2 wide men out thats a problem, I keep saying the glazers are lieing to us and Gill and fergie are towing the line and picking up there wages, this wont change until the fans take off the blinkers and realise the sooner we let the club know we wont put up with it the sooner it will change for the better, while we keep making excuses for them they will continue on dishing up average football, we are not about that

Everyone here needs to realise, that in the first half, we struggled with the sheer physicilaity of Benefica play, they did it to us last seaosn, where we would get fouled on every occasion, but should we make a slight tackle, they would go diving. I think that we were overrun in midifeld, all we require is a player with bite, Im sorry but I dont buy this story of being piss poor n that, as we do have a relatively decent squad with two gaps to fill at best.
WE are not waning, Benefica are hugely under rated as a team, everyone seems ot think that they are really easy opposition, and nobody appreciates that.
The negatives i take from this game is a lack of cohesion due a sudden change in formation, a formation though which, was the perfect formation to combat Benefica, just we werent used to it.
Rooney was terrible lst night, he misused or mis controlled the ball on almost every single occasion, he really needs a goal and some serious fitness but I stick by him. Carrick was invisible last night, but again consider the number of matches he has had, and the fact that the team are still gelling to the type of ball he plays. I am conifident that all will go well, we need Hargreaves, or preferrably give Dave Jones some experience ASAP as he would be ideal in that role.

I thought it was a fairly decent Euro away performance. Granted, it wasn' the best, most fluid we've been, but it's a win these players needed.
Anyway, for the most part I can't remember a decent shot on goal Benfica had. A few pot shots form long range which VDS dealt with comfortably, and Gomes firing wide, was pretty much it.

There's plenty of negativity on this forum of late We all realise that things could be better, especially after the start we had to the season, but Arsenal did show where the flaws are within the team. The performance against Benfica wasn't the fluid, attacking, confident football we expect from Man U, but with the players available, there are limitations to the style of play. We can criticise the likes of Fletcher, O'Shea, Richardson, etc until the cows come home, but these players have to be utilised because they're all we've got. SAF is desperately trying to find the right blend of players, formation, and tactics at the moment, but this isn't being helped by the erratic form of Rooney and Richardson, to name but two. Carrick is still bedding in, so give him a chance. We have to be realists and not expect Man U to storm to Premiership, Champions League, and FA Cup success. It was nice in '99, but other teams have improved (Chavski, 'pool, arse) and we have to play catch-up once again.

It's quite simple. United fans are spoilt. We have been spoilt with great play for years, we have had by far the best team, winning the league with ease, sometimes having a bit of competation. Guess what, you wont have the same players being great for decades, players age, they retire or leave and they need replacing. Yes Sir Alex took too long before starting his rebuilding or gettin ready for the departure of the likes of Keane, but he is entitled to making mistakes like the rest of us, and like us he too was spoilt with what we were achieving. The season has only just started, yet already people are ready to give up. Teams don't stay on top forever, there are fights for power, lapses in power, rebuilding, for some great teams even relegation. Of course we could be doing better, but there's not a single team out there who couldn't be doing better in one way or another, and I tell you what, there are teams out there doing a hell of a lot worse than us who realises that when you win a match, you appreciate those three points. Save the whinging for when we lose, if we get the points we have achieved what we were trying to that day.

In reply to my previous post.
I realise how fucking stupid it sounds. Of course he won't get the sack. i was just all pissed off about work and the FA and everything. He is a great manager second only to busby.
Sorry everyone

Utd fans are spoilt you say, well you might be but i waited 26 years to see utd win the league and no way do i want that again, we are not good enough at the moment and that is wrong as we have had enough time to put things right,
someone said We can criticise the likes of Fletcher, O'Shea, Richardson, etc until the cows come home, but these players have to be utilised because they're all we've got.
That is what i am talking about, we have to play players who are not good enough so how do you expect to win the league, what sort of logic is that! is it that we are not allowed to say someone is shit just because they put utds shirt on
