This was a pretty crap game. I wouldnt watch this on MOTD anyone. United clearly the deserved winners, but we didnt play very well. Fortunately, Charlton were shit.
Park had a really good game I thought, Rio was solid, Rooney is looking closer to his old self again. Scholes didnt look quite right today, and we missed Carrick. We had chances to go 3 and 4 nil up which we should have taken.
Fletcher was AWFUL today. Well, I dont know how awful you can be if you don't really ever touch the ball. It surprised me, because everytime I've seen him play this season he's been a really battler, but today he looked like Fletcher of old again. He made little to no positive impact on the game today, running away from the ball from most of it... and then what does he do at the end? Deprives Larsson of scoring! lol.
Regardless, another 3 points and another less game to play!

Actually now that I think about it. I think that Roo should get MoM. He was so influential today, he was definetly the best for us today. He should have had a goal and could have had one but instead decided to hit it back across goal to Fletch. Rooney is back I feel and I think he deserves MoM for us today. I agree... goals or not, he kelp the energy up and the pub loud. You've gotta love the fire in Rooney. I was on the edge of my seat with that near-goal, but it was still brilliant even without making it in.

Couldn't agree more about Fletcher....he was really shit today .. he did NOTHING the whole game ......there are some games where he does OK.....but in general, he's no good... some of you seem to think he played good today, but maybe its because Charlton were SO RUBBISH that he was able to show glimpses of what he can do... anyways both replacements for Carrick and Ronnie scored....another 3 pts .... Common United..let's keep this going !

Absolutely agree with your comments. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was one of our worst performances of the season if not the worst. I think it told in the crowd. Not much of an atmosphere. Having said that grinding out results is what you need to do to be champions. The Charlton fans were annoying throughout. It was good to shut them up. Man of the match for me has to be Vidic. #thumb#

glad to keep another clean sheet, and extend our home winning sequence to an impressive 10!
Its great when we spread the scoring around, and to get another 3 points w/out ronaldo n carrick, and to be one more match closer to the title is satisfactory.

Fletcher, typical world beater..does nothing all game then breaks the hearts of millions, lol.
Imagine had Rooney's goal had gone in?..I was sitting behind it in the East Stand and thought the ball would just beat him and go out of play, but nuh-uh. Great control, beat the defenders with ease and then had to watch it go agonisingly wide..
Boring game to be honest but what matters is we saw it out and got the three points.
C'mon United!

Player Ratings from MENKuszczak: A couple of excellent early saves saw United through their only brief tricky patch of game 7 Neville: The Ambrose factor down Charlton's left subdued his usual forages forwards. But defended solidly 7 Evra: Charlton couldn't find anyway past him. Another commanding effort. 7 Ferdinand: Not much to ruffle his feathers. Kept the lid on any potential breakthrough 7 Vidic: Dominant again both on the ground and in air. Not much chance to add to his threat at set pieces 8 Park: Once again it was an energetic effort and just what United needed at times. Bonus was a headed goal! 8 Fletcher: Business like in midfield and that's all that was needed from the Scot plus easy header for goal 6 Scholes: A headache for him probing an opening against swamped Charlton midfield but always looked a danger 7 Giggs: Surprising that he made way early as he'd been electrifying at times. Deserved more joy from his efforts 8 Rooney: Here, there and everywhere looking for a way though 7 Saha: The Frenchman battled away without much luck 6

Match summary from MENWAYNE Rooney kept his nerve when it mattered to ease Manchester United to a unconvincing win over Charlton. After all the swagger of recent performances, the Red Devils were forced to grind out a result against Alan Pardew's brave battlers, who never let their heads drop even after Park Ji-Sung had nodded the hosts into a first-half lead. Charlton came agonisingly close to breaching United's defences on two separate occasions but eventually, Rooney eased Sir Alex Ferguson's nerves, calmly chipping to the far post after Scott Carson had blocked his initial shot, setting up Darren Fletcher for the easiest of finishes. Ferguson certainly could not claim his side were anywhere near their best but it is on such triumphs championship wins are built and their advantage over Chelsea remains at six points - and now there are only 11 games to go. Having conceded the prospect of living in a sunnier, warmer place than north-west England must hold some appeal for Cristiano Ronaldo, it was somewhat ironic Ferguson was denied the services of his brilliant young winger because of a heavy cold. As Ronaldo warmed himself by the fire at home, his team-mates struggled, the opening period lacking any of the fluency that has characterised so many of their recent performances. Certainly Charlton were not handicapped by any sense of inferiority. Pardew may have inherited an unenviable situation when he took over at the Valley but it is clear the Addicks will not surrender their proud Premiership status without a fight. The visitors should have gone ahead too but, after Dennis Rommedahl had already fired one decent opportunity into the side netting, Tomasz Kuszczak plunged to his left to turn away a goalbound Darren Ambrose header. It was an excellent save and one which belied the fact Kuszczak has spent almost all season sitting on the bench as understudy to Edwin van der Sar. Kuszczak was to deny Ambrose once more before the first-half was through, although by then United had managed to get their noses in front. Given his hard-man reputation Ben Thatcher will be disappointed at the way Park simply shrugged him aside as he rose to meet Patrice Evra's deflected cross. Once he had won the aerial duel, Park simply steered his header into the net. The only other moment of note during an otherwise unremarkable opening period when Rooney acrobatically controlled Ryan Giggs' long ball from almost head height, a manoeuvre that took both Thatcher and Souleymane Diawara out of the game. Rooney needed just one more touch before letting fly with a fierce right-footed shot that skimmed the outside of a post with Carson totally beaten. If Ferguson hoped the half-time break would help bring any more fluency to his team's efforts he was mistaken. United continued to labour and with Alexandre Song outstanding in Charlton's midfield, the visitors gained greater confidence and encouragement. With a bit more calmness, Rommedahl might have done much better than blaze over from 25-yards after finding himself in plenty of space in a central position. Having left Henrik Larsson on the bench for the first time since his arrival from Helsingborg, Ferguson introduced the veteran Swede for Giggs just after the hour mark. Even that move failed to inspire an immediate improvement in fortunes. In fact, it was Charlton who continued to look the more likely scorers and Marcus Bent was only millimetres away from getting a vital touch to Rommedahl's inswinging free-kick which actually flew just wide off Gary Neville's head. The obvious problem for the visitors in those latter stages was the more they pressed, the more vulnerable they were on the counter-attack. Rooney set up Louis Saha with a superb pass which ended disappointingly with a shot straight at Scott Carson. But the pattern had been established and when Carson blocked Rooney's shot with his legs shortly afterwards, the striker quickly seized on the loose ball and delivered a deft cross to the far post which Fletcher could not fail to head home.

My man of the match has to be Vidic. Nothing got by him in the air and if it wasnt for Ronaldo and Scholes having such great seasons Vidic would win the player of the year for our team. Gotta love the guy!

If Ronaldo gets 2 more goals he becomes the all time top scoring midfielder in the Premiership - ahead of Fat Frank. Are you sure of that? Thats quite an achievement for someone his age, he's got ages to make it happen as well, must be around about Scholes' premiership mark as well. Nah mate what he meant was that number of goals in one season, Ronaldo will have scored the most. Like Lampard has scored 16 in one, season, if ronaldo get 2 he'll have 17 i think!! But thats the idea

I suppose the best thing about this game was Park constantly making Ben Thatcher look as bad as he actually is.
