We had enough quality out there to win it.. But we looked like the arsenal of last season.. trying too hard... Credit to reading.. they came , they defended, they got what they wanted.. We had 20 minutes versus 10 men.. we could've and should've won... very disappointed... i hope this is not a sign of things to come...
We need to put on our scoring shoes quick before the others get a real head start..

We played well. BUT, the shot selection just wasn't right (besides the set-pieces). If Wazza hadn't been subbed off, we pro'lly would've won. We had no recognised strikers in the 2nd half, lol.
Disappointing result, considering Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpoop all won their openers .. but the latter two play each other next week, so things could change. We've got Portsmouth away in midweek .. it's a tough one judging by past corresponding fixtures and Pompey have strengthened this summer, but we've got to be ruthless. It doesn't get any easier with the derby next Sunday.

It doesn't get any easier with the derby next Sunday. In that regard we're extremely lucky to have a league game in midweek, Liverpool AND Arsenal both have Champs league qualifiers, with Liverpool vs Chelsea at the weekend, there's a real opportunity for the lads to come back from this, with the new lads settling in. It's a good chance to hit back #thumb# One things for sure, we need more fighters out there, Hargreaves will make a big difference, so will having Rooney for 90' and more than one striker available! The defense looked impenetrable today, which was a major positive, their forward play left more to be desired.

A lot of fans thought today was gonna be an easy win, if nothing else this match would have taught them that NOTHIN is going to be easy.
I'm fucking pissed off at the moment. We should have won. Carrick was brilliant today, we REALLY missed Rooney when he went off. Relieved when Silvestre went off.
Fuck it. We should have won today, NOT a good start to the season, we need to win mid week and we NEED it to be a fucking good win. No excuses.

Everything will be alright, don´t worry... I think that´s not "a sign of things to come", mate... First premiership match of the sesion, against such a defensive team (against big opponents) as Reading... And the boys did quite good, but the "finishing" ´was bad + their keeper shown outstanding performance... if there was Rooney in the second half, we would score... The most important thing now is Rooney´s health... I hope the foot isn´t broken.

If Rooney is injured for the mid-week game, will we rush Tevez in? It's been said he will play the derby gam, but i think we might sorta need him =\

This is why I was so fucked off with letting two strikers go within days of each other, as with Ole out and Saha seeminly randomly being kidnapped by gypsies and disappearing, we have no cover. Tevez aint fit, but he'd probably done us good today, and if Rooney's injury is serious... I dread to think what will happen. Maybe Anderson will be used as a striker or whatever, but we NEED to have strikers available and we NEED to get those goals scored. Today was one of those days, if we had a match like this two months into the season people would just accept it as something to happens, however this SHOULD not happen in our first match. People can talk around it and whatever, but not winning the first match of the season is a HUGE disadvantage not only points wise and the other top teams having those points more than us, but because of the psychological aspect. I'm just so pissed off at the moment every other word that's come out of my mouth the last hours have been fuck and c*nt.

Fergie didn't seem to think Rooney's injury was as serious as before. From the BBC:
Wayne Rooney lasted only 45 minutes of the new Premier League season after injuring his foot in Manchester United's goalless draw with Reading. Reading defender Michael Duberry accidentally landed on the 21-year-old's foot in the 37th minute and the striker now faces a scan.
Rooney received treatment on the pitch but hobbled off, bootless, at the interval to be replaced by Nani.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "We will have to see what a scan tells us."
Ferguson added: "It was a painful blow and Wayne could not really stand on his foot. I do not think it is as serious an injury as when he broke his metatarsal.
"But his foot did start to swell and it was not worth starting him in the second half."

I thought we were terrible today really looked like they felt all they had to do was turn up . Not good enough for 3 points ,starting with silveste at left back and Evra left midfield seemed pointless . But its the first game hopefully we learn from this that there are no easy games .

Hopefully Anderson will get a run and we will find ways to put those chances we get away. BTW where the fuck are Ole and Saha? I dont think i've even heard anything about them for ages....

That's what fucking happens when you sell 2 strikers. Fergie says the new players are not match fit, yet he thought Scholes WAS?!
Please don't let us start getting into the habit of playing defenders in midfield again, I thought we'd got over that, it's fine for the Community Shield but this is the Premier League. Already that's 2 points we won't get back, now we have no room for error during our next few games. They better get their arses in gear at Pompey.
