If there was a choice with Old Trafford getting every supporter with true Red blood back with it having the best atmosphere and banter going and me notgoing to the games anymore due to it,.then I'd glady give up my season tick for the good of my club. Can anyone else say that? All I've been hearing is 'I wanna go, I wanna go', but as stated above, would you want the best for your club, as in not EVER going to a game, BUT it resulted in the above statement, or GO to every game and let it be how it is today? Rob I am sure you are a passionate fan. So am I I am a working class lad from Salford, like you. I went to my first game in the 1970's and i have been to more matches home and away than i can remember. I was in my last year of University before I saw us win a league title. I had to live most of my life up til then watching the scousers win everything while we picked up the odd F.A cup. I notice that you were born in 1988, you probably barely remember our first league title, you have only ever known continued success. Maybe you would have still been such a big fan if you had to live through 18 years of disappointment, we'll never know will we. However I know that i did and its a bit annoying to listen to an 18 year old kid lecture everyone about what it takes to be a 'real' United fan and pass judgement on fans who don't measure up to his standards. We are all United fans on here, its not a competition to see who is the biggest. We really should be able to get on better than this, make an effort mate

and i forgot to add, i know many in here are hardcore fans, and i know how it feels when we are sittting behind the tele trying to get the team going even though they cant hear us, i usually sing and shout things like " come on"
i remember the game at anfield(crap stadium), when we got that freekick in the end i became all hyped screaming COME ON put it in COME ON NOW!, and when it went in i screamed so much that i lost my voice, seriously thats how much i love united that i still feel i can get behind the team even though im not there. and i for one would hate to see someone just watch a game at OT...

We really should be able to get on better than this, make an effort mate i agree on that mate, i would love to go back in those times to be honest, f*ck the success i mean being in a match in those times was more passionate than being at one now. from what i have seen the fans before were much better, i may be young, but i know one thing that winning trophies wasnt why i started supporting united, it wasnt until we won the treble i noticed we were a big club like that and we are there to win trophies now. i just loved to watch the team, sing along with the fans even though i couldnt sing when i was a kid, i hardly saw every match of united as a kid, i saw odd ones here and there like champions league and such because there wasnt internet or more ways to watch it as it is now, and i have to be honest when i was a kid i didnt know of our success that much, it was the team i loved, the club. if it wasnt for the day in 94 when i watched united play i wouldnt be a united fan, because it could be any other team for all i care, im just glad our team became what it became...but there are some downsides as well not to care about though

So due to my age, I can't express an opinion? About the 'would I support United without the glory years' - ofcourse I would. My whole family grew up and live still til this day in Manchester. It would'be been hard supporting someone else, as I didn't know any other team to support but United. And I can lecture everyone about it because I've been going for beards now and lived in the community for 18 years. I'm sharing OUR opinion, not mine. And that opinion is shared by all age ranges.

As United supporters we all have different views on supporting the club, but the important thing is that in the end we're behind the team and its players. Some of us here have supported the club before the success of the 90s so we have a bit of a different perspective than those who are younger, and some (like me) are from abroad which adds another element as well. I too do not like the "I'm a better fan than you" nonsense because it doesn't solve anything, and oneupmanship is a very boring game to play.

I wish we could all agree on the fact that we are all (or most) here because we have one thing in common - our love for United. So, let's not discuss who's a better/more hard-core supporter, but concentrate on what we can do for United. I think most of us here want what's best for the team and we shouldn't be judged by where we come from, how often we go to games, how long we have been supporters... The main thing is that we love United!

Sigh Yes of course you can express an opinion, but just realise that it isn't always going to be right. I didn't suggest that you would have supported anyone else, I questioned whether you would have been such a big fan if you had been born in the 70's. Like I said, we will never know. It's not exactly been tough following United since you were born has it? And you can't lecture me on being a United fan, no matter how many 'beards' ( ) you have been going for. I have got t-shirts older than you. I am sure one day you will be recognised as the greatest United fan that ever lived, perhaps they will erect a statue of you next to Sir Matt. In the meantime try and get your ego in check. No-one else on here feels the need to constantly 'big themselves up' like you do.

I think everything that needs to be said on the subject has been now, and we're starting to go a bit round in circles.
Locked.
