Fletcher did not even make the trip. I am disappointed. Why the fuck would Eagles go in place of Fletcher? I'm not taking anything away from Eagles, but after that performance, he merited at least a bench spot. Did Dong go? This is the squad according to the BBC: Ryan Giggs is set to make his 100th Champions League appearance for Manchester United after being rested for the FA Cup win against Arsenal. Cristiano Ronaldo has recovered from a virus and is expected to start against Lyon at the Stade Gerland. Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre are the only long-term injury absentees from United's 22-man squad. Lyon also rested players at the weekend and are expected to bring back forwards Fred and Karim Benzema. Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Evra, Hargreaves, Ferdinand, Brown, Ronaldo, Anderson, Saha, Rooney, Giggs, Park, Vidic, Carrick, Nani, Scholes, Pique, O'Shea, Fletcher, Simpson, Kuszczak, Tevez, Eagles.

This could be a big scoring game for us, if we can keep our defence tight and stop they 3 or 4 major threats, then I think Ronnie, Rooney, Tevez and co can carve the hell out of their back 4. 3-1 ( I am feeling lucky)

I checked on manutd.com, so there may be a mistake.
Sir Alex Ferguson has taken a strong squad to France for United's Champions League tie against Ligue 1 champions Lyon.
The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Owen Hargreaves all returned after sitting out Saturday's thumping FA Cup win over Arsenal, forming part of a 21-man squad that departed Manchester airport this morning.
Sir Alex and one of his players will face the international media at a press conference shortly after touching down in France, before heading over to the Stade de Gerland for a training session ahead of Wednesday's crucial first leg.
All the latest news from United's trip will appear first on ManUtd.com.
United: Van der Sar, Kuszczak; Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, O'Shea, Simpson, Park, Pique; Hargreaves, Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Eagles; Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Giggs, Saha

From what I saw yesterday, I think we need to show the other teams in Europe how to play! 3-0.

its going to be a difficult game, yes we have the quality and if we don't make it through I'll kill myself but I personally think as long as we go anderson and hargreaves in the middle our front 3 will have more than enough opportunity to win the match. I worry about Benzema but I said that about torres and look what happened him ;D

I prefer Scholes to come off the bench.

Before his injury I would pick scholes all day long but the combo of hargreaves and anderson has worked so well against arsenal and liverpool this season and at the minute anderson should be the first player on that list. If lyon go with 3 in there we will need hargreaves in there. Its an area we need to get right.

I've got a feeling Fergie will play the wrong sort of team.
Imo he should be starting Anderson, Tevez and Nani because of the form they are in (Nani because he was great last game and Giggs has been poor most of the season)
I think he will go for one up front though, drop Tevez, play Giggs because it's his 100th game instead of Nani (plus poor form doesn’t seem to stop Giggs starting) and drop Anderson in favour of Scholes, Carrick and Hargreaves.
I hope i'm wrong though and he starts the players that deserve to start like Tevez and Anderson especially.
P.S i'll be happy to be proved wrong if Giggs scores and we win convincingly ;-)

Defensive troubles In contrast to United's resounding win at the weekend, Lyon head into the game on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Le Mans in Ligue 1. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas was critical of the performance and has demanded a response against the Red Devils. Karim Benzema and Hatem Ben Arfa, who have both been linked with moves to Old Trafford, are expected to start for Alain Perrin's side. The hosts' selection problems are in defence as centre-halves Patrick Muller and Cleber Anderson are both out injured. Cris is in the squad for the first time since suffering a knee injury in August, but is only likely to be on the bench due to a lack of match fitness. That means former Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong is set to partner Sebastien Squillaci at the back. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boumsong! I wouldn't put it past us though just making a point. My predictions are usually wrong, so I should just quit doing it. I did predict 1-1 though, earlier in the week, so you can be pretty sure that won't be the score. I'm really looking forward to the game - yesterday's matches were fairly unexciting (yes, Chelsea, I'm looking at you.)

And I predicted a win (not by 4 goals) against Arsenal. We WILL beat Lyon well. and Asenal will lose against Milan, and if it weren't for a scouse ref last night Liverpool would have lost aswell. Chelsea will win though. ;D
