Up front? capello has a soft spot for heskey and crouch. Although Crouch does seem to do the biz for england. Id say bent wont make it even though id take him over Heskey - 7 goals in 57 games?? as a striker?? fooking hell - that makes Berba look good People are pointing out his assists as a reason for his inclusion - i thought that was mainly the midfielders job tho Thats so true, I just have no idea what Heskey does for a team. I really hate the kind of striker who scores 2 goals a season but is in the squad because he is big and strong. John Carew is big and strong but he manages to bang them in. Heskey is useless, same with Carlton Cole.

He's not 'useless' as such. Would Fabio pick him because he's somehow not noticed he sucks. Well to extent he does suck, but his usage is tactical. If anything we've learnt anything over the years about England, picking the your best players doesn't necessarily mean best team. Cappello likes for his style, very much causing a handful for the defenders, winning the ball and holding it to create space and time for the 'real' players. Lets be honest, he does that well. He runs his socks off for an hour and then you bring the pacy impact striker on for the last bit. it makes sense to me as England haven't had a 2nd world class striker since Owen begun his injury circus a few years ago, no oen good or consistant enough to hold down a first choice place. Crouchie is better player than Heskey , for a giraffe hes got pretty good feet and technique. Though I remember 2006, and the continental refs do not like his gangly arms everywhere style, constantly conceded fouls. shame hes pretty crap at heading, he'd be immense if he could. As i said, i'd rather have a working team than the best players on the pitch and Cappello knows more than we do

Saying that Bent has had a fab season so he deserves a fair shout too.

Crouchie finished the season on a decent bit of form so hopefully we'll see him together with Rooney in a friendly. Hopefully he's learnt from last time with all the pointless fouls, if so he could be a very good partner.

The problem with Crouch as fletchabey pointed out is that international referees don't like his style and constantly whistle him for fouls just because he's tall. However, he does have a knack of scoring goals and will probably finish with more goals than Lampard, although I'm still convinced most of those goals should go to Becks who was just playing the billiard off Crouch's head into the net.

I actually think Carlton Cole is a better version of Emile Heskey. He's in the same flat pack furniture mold, except with a few goals in him. Erect him mid way through their half like a wardrobe, and just hit him constantly from midfield. Both of them are like sheds, I'd just rather have a goalscoring shed.
Of course if Emile Heskey is my garden shed, Peter Crouch is my drainpipe. But he's a drainpipe who gets in good positions and is far more useful than a shed. I quite like Peter Crouch. He does well for England and he more than deserves a chance to start up there with Rooney. He's also played and scored in a World Cup before (although he nearly pulled a blokes hair out to do it) and that kind of experience is vital. Referees don't like his gangly style, but I think he's got enough experience and nous to get around that now. Also he scares the shit out of South Americans. They see him coming on and their faces just scream "Are they allowed to bring on a giant? Is this within the rules of the game?!!!".

I hear that Micheal Carrick is in.
Theo Walcott and Bent are out. Quite surprised at Walcott.

Yeah wouldn't have expected Walcott out but it is understandable, apparently Baines is out and Warnock is in as well :/

Hopefully we won't have need of most of the support players. Glad Joe Cole is going - one of the few players we have with flair. Some like Carrick and Wright-Philips are going because there's nothing better that is tried and trusted at international level in their positions.

Dawson over King? If that's true then odd, Dawson never actually played for Capello did he, in the run up that is.
