If we had been going for any Dutchman from Real Madrid it should have been Sneijder. VD would be a luxury in our team and people would hate him for not running around a lot. Plus as tatty mentuioned, his injuries and the fact that Gullit phoned Spurs right at the end of the transfer window because Madrid were desperate. Is there any chance you could get a feeling for January/next summer from your source tatty, by the way? *Closes eyes and crosses fingers*. General consensus at the training ground is January will be quiet, like it always is. Next summer could be the one, with the FFP coming in, we're more than well-equipped to competer transfer wise as some at the club think Chelsea and City could struggle this summer with those rules, assuming they;re properly enforced of course. **Prepares "Welcome to United" banners for Messi, Schweinsteiger, Gotze, Schneider, Hazard, Xavi, Iniesta & Lahm. And a "Welcome Back" one for Ronaldo. ** Go team red Manchester!! ;D

Thanks tat. Thought as much.
I'll still be hugely disappointed if Arsenal do go and get Goetze in January, but it's comforting to think there might be significant movement next July/August.

Just on Gotze/Goetze. Does anyone else think we should make a ruling on how we spell the bugger's name? I've checked back through some of my posts and I vary between the two?
I'd go for Goetze, it's longer but it encompasses the umlaut. (The two dots over the German "o".)
Otherwise we'll just have to sign him and see what spelling goes on the back of his shirt. . .

his wikipedia page says Mario Götze Tell me how to do an umlauted "o" on my UK QWERTY keyboard and I'll use that spelling. Even if he doesn't sign for us, it'd still be nice to know how to splee his name.

He actually said that he would be open to a move in the near future to a "big" club, but he will never leave Dortmund in January. Dortmund struggled at the beginning of the season and will have to fight Bremen, Schalke and Leverkusen to get in the CL. You can feel the gap Sahin left after he joined Madrid in the Summer, even though they signed a promising player in Gündogan. Götze is their talisman, someone who went through their academy and is the biggest hope for their fans. He is under contract until 2014, so why should Dortmund let him at such a crucial time of the season, if they could get twice the money just for qualifying for the CL?
He is an outstanding player and Dortmund are not the club they were from 2000 - 2009. They changed their philosophy and management. Klopp is great coach and Götze an intelligent boy. IF he is going to leave Dortmund, it will be in the summer. In January, no chance!

Unfortunately Greece are making me a bit more nervous about that... its no secret the Glazers want to float a portion of club which would be enough to wipe a lot of debt as well as providing cash. This float wont go ahead until things settle and if Greece go bankrupt with the possibility of Italy following who knows when that might be. The cash injection and the addition of another season of FFP would probably leave us as one of strongest buyers again.

Mario Goetze huh? seen the kid play...all credit to the German youth set-up...11 years ago after their disastrous Euro campaign, they started giving a lot more importance to youth facilities...now 10 years later, they are bearing fruits of their hardwork...Goetze, Ozil, Marvin Martin, Mats Hummels, Muller, Badstuber...they were all part of that intense youth set-up that helped Germany to the Euro 2008 finals and WC semis u've to praise them bunch for their loyalty towards club n country...they have some players who are regarded amongst the best young players in europe...but they wud never move to foreign countries... if he comes to United, it will be very good for us...but i dont see it happening...he is German and they rarely move abroad

TalkSport
Juventus believe they can beat Arsenal and Manchester United to the signing of Mario Gotze by offering Milos Krasic to Borussia Dortmund as part of their deal.
The Serie A club are proposing a £20m cash deal, plus Serbia international Krasic, who is seen as the perfect makeweight in any transfer.
