There's a book on kindle for any united fan who's interested in memories, also the book is very funny, it's written by a guy who grew up in Salford in the 1960's and it's all about his home life and united. It's called Manchester United's Role in My Troubled life by Peter Morris, it was less than a quid when I read it this year on holiday. My girlfriend got fed of me laughing out loud by the swimming pool!! Yep I read this last year some good yarns in there.

Yeh, I really loved the bits about the old players, Best and Charlton and his hero Law, he brought them to life for me!

That's strange. I read that after my brother in Australia told me about it. He used be in the army cadets in Salford with the guy who wrote it. He said he was a right laugh, and a fanatic united fan. My brother said he once chucked a girl when he found out her dad was a city fan!! He can tell a story.

If you gentleman could only read one book about United the rest of your life, what would it be? I have a few books on the history etc. But, is there one that you love more than the rest? Bought this one you guys are talking about now, sounds like a good one and less than a buck, why the fuck not.

Bought this one you guys are talking about now, sounds like a good one and less than a buck, why the fuck not. This. My son bought it for me for xmas 2003. Sits in my bedroom on my side cabinet. It only goes up till 2002 but it's my SAF bible if I want to check back on things from from his childhood days and his achievements up till then (2002). I have read it a few times. A brilliant read for me and chapter 1 starts of with The Boy Out of Goven - ' When the wind's howling down the Clyde, that's what forges your character.' - Alex Ferguson.
Chapter 14 bought a tear to my eye. About the great Celtic & Scotland manager Jock Stein who had a fatal heart attack in Cardiff against Wales in a 1985 World Cup qualifier round. Wales had to win the match, a draw would have done Scotland. Wales were leading but eventually Scotland scored and Scotland went through 1-1. Alex Ferguson then, not SAF was sitting beside Stein in the dugout when Stein collapsed. I will go on too the end bit of the chapter. Alex McLeish a former player under SAF at Aberdeen recalled "Most of us had showered and dressed when Fergie entered the dressing room and slumped into a chair near the door without uttering a word." The players before hand were only told that Stein had collapsed and was ill. He went on and said to SAF " Any news, boss? I asked, and it was as if my voice had aroused him from a private reverie. He started, looked up and said simply 'Jocks dead.' You will have to get and read the book, as I said, to me it was a brilliant read.

Many of the recent player/manager bios are pure money grabs, filled with jabs and back handed complimants, these don't really interest me. Even the recent SAF has received rather unappealing reviews. I admire the man enough, it's about time I read one of his bios. Thanks again!

Yes, there is a great bit about him actually joining the army cadets. The bit about the Irish lad who really wanted to be in the scouts made me laugh out loud. In fact I am going to read it again over the weekend!!

Hi all, another Utd supporter from Perth, Western Australia. Born in Sussex and emigrated to Perth in 68. I remember my dad taking me as a 7 yr old by Train from Worthing to Manchester to watch Utd play. It was Utd vs the Hammers on Jan 6th 68, Utd won 3-1 Best got 1, Sir Bobby 1 and I can't recall the other scorer. We emigrated to Australia on February 10th that year. As luck would have it we saw Utd play in Perth on their pre season tour the same year after winning the European Cup. I still recall Bobby Charlton unleashing a thunderbolt shot that hit the bar and snapped it clean in to and the game being delayed for a replacement. Utd beat WA 10 - 1 and George Best took the ball from his own goal line and dribbled the the full length of the pitch, beating every player got to the goal line turned round and calmly did it all the way back and placed he ball in his own net. The highlight for me was getting the autographs of the whole team including the Great Man Sir Matt and the man who kept our club together after the Munich disaster in Jimmy Murphy.

Talk about memories. I will always remember this match. I was working as a security guard at the time here in Edinburgh. The first half I was in my security box and listening to United go 3 nil down against Hoddles Spurs on the radio. I was pissed off something bad. First half finished so I decided to do a patrol of the grounds too calm down. Came back to base around 30 minutes later, turned the radio back on and then heard "Spurs 3, Unite 2...game on" Nearly fell off my chair. Then hearing 3-3,3-4,3-5 game over. I was on cloud 9 and screaming lol. I paid for that though as I had forgot to do a check call to my control centre and got a right rollicking when they called me. Worth it though. Rushed home after finishing my shift and watched the match that night on MOTD....and got pissed watching it. SAF must have kicked a few arses at h/t and it worked. Just looking at him chewing his gum with a smile when the goals started to pop in. Don't see comebacks like this anymore.

Just looking at the line up - there was RvN, Solskjaer and Andy Cole up front with Scholesy, Becks and Veron behind them...pretty tasty!!

Those were the days long gone. And too think we won nothing that year with them playing. Came 4th in the League, FA Cup 4th round, League Cup 3rd round, Charity Shield runners up and the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup. Yet Ruud was top scorer with 36 goals in all competitions. The following year we won the League though and Ruud was top scorer again with 44 goals.
