Fantastic, what a pleasure to watch him play! Snooker is such a fucking annoying game, I can only make a decent break when I'm bingoed. To see anyone play it that well is always mind boggling to me. Probably the most humbling sport to play after a full 2 weeks of watching these lads hit long pots when up against the baulk and knocking in century breaks |

Snooker is such a fucking annoying game, I can only make a decent break when I'm bingoed. To see anyone play it that well is always mind boggling to me. Some sports, it takes a lot of watching to truly understand how special the players are (rugby springs to mind for me). In snooker, it's clear instantly - even what pros call simple shots often look very difficult to you or me. I always would bottle it playing pool in league games, especially on the black. I then started working in a bar with a full size snooker table and it totally changed my perception of the game. My pool just became so much easier. I've been thinking over the last few days about how many great sports personalities there have been in my lifetime (50 this year 😱) The Rocket is right up there. I've truly been blessed having witnessed some amazing feats. Jimmy White not winning a worldie still grates me. BTW, it should be held at the crucible and be going nowhere! |

Can remember when Ronnie achieved the fastest ever maximum in 1997. Our dad was absolutely waxing about it, telling us about this bloke who could clear the table in no time at all. I wasn’t gripped by the snooker bug at all prior.
We sat down to watch Grandstand that weekend and they repeated it on there. My dad explaining how hard it was to do what he was doing. I was captivated, he was almost running round the table.
Our dad died two months later. All these years later, O’Sullivan is still doing it and I now have a son of my own (also named Ronnie) to wax lyrical to.
Really felt special that. What a fucking player.

Snooker is one of those rare sports where you have to think maybe 3 or 4 shots ahead because potting balls is a small part of the game, the game is all about cue ball control. The only other game that can drive me nuts like snooker is golf. |

Love the recent renaissance of Jimmy White.
He's just lost in the last 16 of the WST but he knocked Trump out in the last round. 2nd time this season he's reached the last 16 of a ranking event. 60 years old and still knocking around. Makes me feel young again watching him play!
