Top young player but he's not the answer for us.

Would be the ideal sort of player for us long term for the #10 position, has everything Rooney and the team doesn't (pace, skill, ability to run and beat people) bar Di Maria. Having said that, he still has a lot to learn and is somewhat raw, needs to stay at Everton for another season or two to develop. An ideal scenario would be to buy him for around £25m and loan him back for next season. Not going to happen though, and I can't see anyone paying £45m for him, not even City. They were very interested but I think interest may lie elsewhere now. Not sure where else he could go, Arsenal and Chelsea both well stocked in that position and I expect he'd be out of budget for other clubs, doubt he'd go abroad so he's got very few options.
Not expecting us to get involved with him, but come the end of the season, if he's not moved anywhere else and we've shipped out a few players, that may well change.

Sorry but i dont want Barkley for a few reasons 1) Way to expensive 2) first time in ages we have quite few midfielders 3) Barkley would play in the same position as Mata/Herrera/Januzaj and Rooney 4) Would rather spend the money quoted on 3 new defenders. 2 new CB and 1 new RB (sorry i love Rafa but someone who can play 30 games a season be nice)

Just One reason 1.) don't want to hand Everton or Martinez a sack full of cash so they can wank on us. We have been too kind to them

Under Martinez he will stagnate, not develop. Everton are stagnating now under Martinez. We don't need him anyway especially for £45m.

My initial post was on the assumption that we'd also be buying the required defenders / midfielders. If it came down to a choice of Barkley or a new CB and RB, then I'd obviously choose the latter. With out financial situation though, we should be able to do both and more.

I can believe that, i have my own opinions on Mata much as i think he is brilliant i find him so SLOW as in no pace at all and it stands out, Januzaj i dont see us selling or loaning just yet.

I didn't get the hype with Rodwell and don't with Barkley either. Ditto Berahino. A few good games, some flashes of brilliance later, they are spoken of as the 2nd coming.
