Left backs are pretty rare, at least good left backs. I think a lot of teams take a central defender and turn him into a left back. Look at Smalling at right back, I could be wrong, but isn't he naturally a center defender? We could do the same for a left back, not sure who off the top of my head but we could get a young promising defender and mould (mold? dunno the spelling) into a left back. Just my $.02

Just my $.02 1) Jonny Evans (molding attempted, partially successful) 2) Sean McGinty (molding in process) 3) Zeki Fryers (although I think he's being molded from a LB to a CB)

Jonny Evans can play in every position along the back four. Sean McGinty isn't good enough to play left-back, if he's going to make it at all it'll be at CB. Zeki Fryers is being moved inside.
Forget all those names though and remember one, Tyler Blackett.

It's weird though, I really can't think of many good established or up and coming left backs in world football. maybe its cos full backs have been getting noticed in their mid 20's lately rather than as teenagers

My 'Inzaghi' obsession has been with Tom Cleverley ever since I saw him play for Leicester. I have a mate from down that way, kept dragging us to the pub to watch the Foxes anytime they were on telly during Uni, so when Clevers went down there I saw a bit of him before his injury and my love grew from there. I've been banging the drum for him ever since!

I haven't seen much of Blackett but if he got sent off for smacking a scouse then he's good enough for me! At least on the level of passion haha. And as for Johnny Evans I definitely see him staying in he center, as he's very solid there. But I could see us using him elsewhere in the defense as needed.

Would have mentioned him, but don't think he has ever played CB at any level. Was responding to driftingreddevil's musings regarding CB's in our squad who can possibly be trained to adapt to the left full back position.

Fair play. My point would why mould a centre back into a left back when we have a left full back already?
