the lad is clearly nowhere near ready to cut it for United this is essentially it would like to see people be more patient with him though.

I started this post way back. I am now mor convinced than ever that he will not cyut it in the PL. He doesnt look the bravest keeper I've ever seen and this has fuck all to do with age. He looks ever so feable and sometimes tranfers do not come off. I think the sooner the manager realises this the better. Goalkeeper is sucha key position that we simply cannot afford him the luxury of time.

I touched on it earlier in the thread and Bestie mentioned it too, Fergie has to take the stick for this guy making mistakes.
He knows the lad is not ready yet he keeps throwing him in and killing his confidence. There was no reason why Linders shouldn't have played on Saturday.

There was no reason why Linders shouldn't have played on Saturday. Because De Gea did well at Anfield earlier in the season

Yes I know that and he probably had his best game in a United shirt this season at Anfield but we can't keep switching between the two goal keepers.
It does neither player any good, Linders has been good of late I see no reason why he should be dropped.

Is this the same kind of logic that saw people call for Ronaldos head because he did one step-over too many??

Going through some earlier posts in the De Gea thread. Funny how people said he was the ideal choice despite his age because he had enough experience playing a couple of seasons in La Liga and Europa.
All of a sudden, he seems to have lost that experience.

have to agree that it is a little OTT by calling for De Gea to be sold. the guy is light weight, but he can't be considered the finished article at his age can he? he wont mature physically until he's 26-28, i would keep him just for the fact that in 6 years his technique would be tops with the added incentive that he surely would have bulked up by then. not better than Lindegard now, but he will be.

Calling for De Gea to be sold?
Now we're getting into realms of being completely daft.

Calling for him to be sold is a bit to drastic but people predicting 'how good he will be' in the future is just as silly.
Where do you buy these glasses too look into the future?

bestie pretty much nailed it "hes not ready yet" send him to a lower team to learn the basics then we can fine tune him after the loan. The lad is making quite a few mistakes but jesus give him a chance. The swapping around aint helping so its not all down to him. We can keep going round in circles but ultimately either send him out on loan or give him a long spell so he can gain his confidence.
The poor lad is probably thinking "shit if i make a mistake im gonna be dropped for anders next game" so hes probably trying too hard thus making the mistakes because hes not getting a run through. Fergie has to take a reasonable portion of the blame ere for swapping because for me he looks one shit hot prospect, I said a long time back on this thread people will eat their words and I still think that. Patience my dipper hating friends.
Games - 20 Clean Sheets - 5 Save Percentage - 77.6%
That to me shows hes got the ability he justs needs a little help.

Same place as those that could see potential in Ronaldo. Its called being able to spot potential and not writing a player off cos they dont single handedly win you every game at the age of 20.

i'd be curious to know how many times he's played when Evans is in the defense. not my cup of tea that Evans, not fond of him one bit. (that said, he wasn't that bad on the weekend)

@ Set
Its different judging a goal keeper and an outfield player.
I remember people on this form trying to defend Ben Foster when he was making mistakes using the excuse that he was young and would come good in time. That didn't happen either.
For me I think a goalkeepers confidence it much more vital than that of an outfield player. If a goal keeper losses confidence it is extremely hard to try and get it back especially at a top club like United where everyone expects you to be perfect. De Gea has found himself under a microscope since coming to the club because he has continued to make mistakes I don't know if this is harsh or self inflicted.
It takes a goal keeper with a huge personality to turn his confidence around. I don't think De Gea has this in him, you only have to look at him in the net to know he is not at ease.
He has shown me nothing since coming to the club, his ability to command his box and come off his line is ridiculous. We won't talk about corners, his ability to get down on the ground and put his body behind the ball is also poor. He seems to think saving the ball with his feet is a better means of goalkeeping.
Lads on here know I don't put a player down or criticize him very often but for me this guy has deserved it. He's been at the heart of our exit from the champions league, slip up in the premier league and now our exit from the FA cup.
He's continued to make mistakes whenever called upon. I just hope we don't seem him in the nets from now till the end of the season, I think a couple of months rehabilitation is needed for this kid.
II'm not writing him off but i'll be very surprised if he turns it around and becomes a success at United.

Barring the last line in bold there - I think that De Gea could become a top, top goalkeeper for us in time - I agree with that post. As I said before, the lad just isn't ready. Unfortunately, of all the positions on a football pitch where you can't just bring in a young lad and push through mistakes, it's in goals. Outfield players can make a cock-up and not concede. If a 'keeper is making mistakes, it's 98% of the time going to lead to a goal conceded.
