De Gea showed in the Chelsea match that he is good at what he does and needs to improve in the areas he's weakest. We all knew that he was a shot stopper and not a commanding presence in the box when we signed him. Unfortunately, when you're a keeper, it's easy for teams to exploit your weakness. So everytime we concede a corner, players will swarm around the nervous keeper, which only leads to further mistakes. He's not going to improve this part of his game overnight.
There's another player with a glaring weakness in the team - Giggs and his right foot. If Giggs was made to shoot and cross with his right foot every time he got the ball, he wouldn't be the player he has been. But outfield players are allowed weaknesses. Whats more, they are allowed to keep their weaknesses, with seemingly no attempt to improve them. Whereas a keeper still learning his trade is supposed to have already developed a complete game.
Now is not the time to judge De Gea. He wasn't bought for this season. IF after 3 or 4 seasons he still hasn't become more confident in the air, or commanding in the box, then we'll have to maybe hold our hands up and say that his development is costing us too much.
Casillas is widely regarded as one of the world's best keepers, but he would never have made it at United judging by some impatient fans.

To be fair, I thought De Gea dealt with crosses reasonably well. There was that on flap from their first corner.
The kid will come good, people just need a touch more patience. I can see why people aren't willing to give him the time needed due to the fact that every game matters now, however being overly negative about him won't help his confidence a jot, and it's time we got behind him and offered our unwavering support like we have done to numerous players over the years.

agree with the pro-de Gea talk.
that save was just phenomenal. he's gonna be a great keeper, let's be patient and make sure he's OUR great keeper and doesn't fuck off back to spain

Really nice to hear some praise for the lad in the press. He had little trouble with one corner (our commentator tried to make a big deal out of it, wanker), other than that he was solid and made few spectacular saves. If some can't see the potential in him they must be blind. He'll get a run of games now and hopefully he'll prove the doubters wrong.

guys lets not get all lovey and dovey just yet. yes he pulled off some great saves against chelsea, but all it takes is a blunder the next game and all the good work will be forgotten. he has a massive chance now lindegaard is injured, which came at the best time for DDG and the worse time for lindegaard. i pray he will come good, but im not sure. if he gets some consistant performances going, since now he will be given the chance, then that will shut alot of people up

Keep playing the lad.
Lindegaard is injured, this is a heaven sent opportunity to make him grow. (Sorry Amos)

Play badly - give loads of critism = Low confidence
Play well and pull of arguably a stunning save to stop us from losing the game - praise the lad for it = Confidence boost. (something he lacks atm and needs plenty of, the more the better).
Were quick enough to condemn the boy for plenty of things dont give him the praise he NEEDS. Its no wonder his confidence is as low as id say 90% of fans remember the bad points and not enough of the good points, hence why I uploaded the video to focus on an area where he can get that praise.

I just said he had a good game, anyone can have a good game.
He showed some positive signs of being a good keeper against Chelsea, its the first time i've seen this from him.

I know what you mean Paul, fans are quick to judge players when there in bad form.
It was only last October I was giving out about Valencias form but he turned it around and is now probably on form the best player in our squad.
I did slate DeGea and I stand by it, Sunday was the first time I seen him do something which suggests he has top quality about him.

He was our best player at Anfield earlier in the season, won us a point with a cracking save from Henderson. Also made a great save from Ramires against Chelsea at OT, Ramires should have scored but he still had to get across his goal to make the block. Made a couple of great saves in the 8-2 over Arsenal including the penalty stop. He has cost us a couple of points this season, but lets not go overboard by making out the save on Sun was the 1st good thing he's done in a United shirt because that simply is not true.
