when he made that save against chelsea i could almost see confidence filling his body - its weird, i think over the next few games we'll see exactly why he is here - the mistakes will be put to one side and people will start to get on the pro-de gea team rather than the 'omg kill that cunt' team. I also think he wanted more than just Rio going over to say well done

De Gea making mistakes should be no different to Ronaldo coming over to us and wasting plenty of chances - he would get in a great position and make the wrong decision time and time again. But it is different in that outfield players are allowed more leniency. A goalkeeper is supposed to have mastered every aspect of his profession when they break into the first team. That's just unrealistic.
He's done well in the last couple of games, long may that continue. not for my sake, I have patience and faith in him, but to keep the pressure from those impatient, unrealistic fans off his back.

Exactly. The anti-De Gea stuff has been embarassing frankly. The bloke has struggled at times but he's produced some marvellous saves as well, particularly in the last few games. He will be THE dominant keeper in Europe in a couple of years time.

I'm rather late into this argument since I haven't been on here for quite some time. I, however do feel that De Gea will be a great keeper given some time. However I also think Lindegaard is highly underrated. At the moment it's a toss up of who I'd like to see between the posts. Perhaps Sir Alex should continue giving both of them opportunities for the time being as De Gea matures. I think overall for the future I favor De Gea though.

Well said both of you Glad to see theres a few more around the place that see sense Just scroll through this thread, I've been supportive of him this whole time. I think the criticism of him has been harsh. I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that some people think for £18 million and the amount of hype surrounding him before the move he should be VDS mkII, which is unrealistic.

@ Danunited
Your being a bit smart with your comments. "Unrealistic fans" because some fans judged DeGea on his actual performances and didn't make excuses doesn't make them unrealistic. There calling it as they see it having a difference in opinion to your own doesn't make other fans unrealistic.

He's finding his voice out there too, which he didn't seem to have early on (can't blame him though: young, on a new team, in a foreign country...must be unnerving--how many people in that position are going to assert keeper-command over the likes of Giggs, Roo, etc.?) Lindegaard came out with swagger, and kept it. Just hope De Gea is able to generate some of that too, of his own style...Spanish Spiderman...LOL

The mistakes are not good enough, and I am happy to criticise him for them. But when I say unrealistic, I mean those fans that expect him to be the finished product at the age of 19. I'm not saying those that criticised him are unrealistic, just those that completely write him off, of which there are many.

I don't think anyone should be writing De Gea off, that's just nonsense. What if we all wrote Ronaldo off when he first came here? We'd all be slapping ourselves for that now wouldn't we? We need to let De Gea mature, he's still a "kid" for fuck's sake.

They both had moments that would make you cringe followed by moments where you wonder how they just did that.
