Clean sheets is a piss poor yardstick to judge a keeper. That's a collective and not individual attribute. Goalie's stats as in the page before is the right way to determine who has been the best, surely? Absolutely it is, but it seems these people are blind to it. The average footy fan seems to want everything as simplified as possible, hence ignoring every other stat bar that one. Ditto the striker stats as I mentioned. You've only got to look at the player ratings in the tabloids every Sunday, to see how people can fundamentally misjudge a player. Were we saying this when VdS set his clean sheet records without hardly making a save? Notwithstanding that, DdG is the best keeper on the planet. End of.

De Gea has been immense. Clean sheets is an indicator of defence and GK together. Agree that it is one of the yardsticks but not the most important one. IMO If there is any indicator that should have the maximum weightage, it should be Shots saved. Then David Marshall of Cardiff would be the Keeper in team of the year. Not followed him much. But, yes, if he has made the maximum saves with LEAST mistakes. A better 'shots saved to shots on target ratio' should be fair to all, since it gives all keepers a good chance, irrespective of being in a top team or bottom.

I'd have to agree with NR7 who says clean sheet is a collective effort but surely De Gea has developed much since his first season.Especially this season I felt confident with him being goalie.

Here's the de God save of the season...great reactions... Of course Match of the Day picked a save that was against Liverpool. Because you have to be the very best just to get close to stopping the very, very, most bestest, best - Right?

But despite that smikes would have been lauded for that whereas Chech wins the goalie of the year. The media are still sheepish about writing off De God.

I still hear about De God's improvement, coming on, getting there, from the media, when in reality he's one of the top 5 keepers in the world. He has been sensational for over 2 years now, is miles better than Hart, clearly better than Cech and in the same bracket as Neuer, Courtois and Lloris. i literally wouldn't swap him for any keeper in the world. It is a farce that he probably won't go to the WC because Reina is effectively Spain's entertainment officer. he should be starting for Spain, end of story.
