There seems to be a lot of confusion on this. A two year deal means he's contracted until 2018. Yet the paper says he could go on a free in 2017? That's not correct. Maybe they mean a 1 year extension, 2 year total new deal?

If so, then his old deal will cease to exist, and a new 2 year deal from now, will take him to 2017
All looks to me like he's off anyway and this is just to maximize any money from Real, otherwise surely he'd sign for longer than 2 years

Either his agent is playing to maximise his earnings or he genuinely wants to go to Madrid. Its not surprising if he does want to go to madrid. They have a great side and its a chance for him to go back home. This is what happens when the majority of your first team players are foreigners, loyality is scarce, its another argument for producing more home grown players. From the media reports we have offered him a contract that will make him the best paid keeper in world football, so its clearly not about the money, which is refreshing. If there is an option to exchange him for Bale, I think the club should bite there hand off and run. He's worth £30m for me.

I would look at players from Northern Europe and Scandinavia if possible as Southern European and South American players see the big two Spanish sides as the holy grail to play football and with climate, language and all that it's easier for the players family's to settle. Di Maria is a fine example of this and he is here for his last mega contract and would he would have been at PSG but for FFP as for De Gea he will follow the same path as ronaldo NQAT.
Can't blame him though as its his home city and all his friends and family are there

Generally of course.

De Gea will have lost the fans by this time next year, the club agreeing a 2-year deal takes much of the pressure and criticism off them as everyone can see De Gea is basically engineering a move to Real Madrid.
Good luck, Dave, cheers for the commitment and class you've shown to a club that put so much faith in you.
If possible I'd sell him now, hate having players that aren't aware of what it means to pull on the shirt and De Gea is most certainly not Ronaldo.

But considering how many issues we have to deal with already, I think keeping him for one more year is preferable (just) If we have a new RB and a new CB, get them in and let's try to form a strong back 4. Get that in place and it'll be easier to get a new keeper in and be a success. I think!

I share your comments, its the silence from David is the killer really. the old "her in doors" making the decision i feel i genuinely think David is torn between staying with us and keeping his GF happy.. just my opinion

If true it is now a case, primarily for me anyway, for not letting Real Madrid get what they want this summer. Apparently what De Gea wants as well. Ingrate.
Use the time we do get to convince him to stay, if he still wants to fuck off then good riddance.

I don't think the Ronaldo comparison is fair. Ronaldo might not have been silent but I remember many times him saying he loved the club and crap like "only God knows whats gonna happen". He knew fine rightly he was leaving and as supporters we all knew he was leaving, so we accepted it and thanked him for what he had done. If De Gea came out in the press and did a Sterling type interview the fans would take fucking lumps out of him on the Saturday. Sometimes your better saying nothing to be honest.

Fair play to dave for not running his contract down and making sure we get a fee for him
How is our 10 foot young goalkeeper doing btw he may be ready in 12 months time ?

If he wants to go fine - but it'll be on our terms and he'll sure as hell give us another season so we can sort the rest of the squad out before we sell him. From then on? He can piss off to the jeers at the Bernabeu and, if history is any barometer, the trophies drying up there should be just around the corner. De Gea will be a speck in the annals of our history and if what's happened to Casillas (who made his debut there aged 19 and has made over 500 appearances for their club) doesn't show him what he needs to know then he deserves the flack if/when it rains down on him from the white handkerchief-wielding ingrates in the stands.
