I thought most were in agreement that 442 is dead?We will not be winning any more CL Titles playing 442, unless we play English opponents of course.Bale is a quality player, whom we should have signed from Southampton, as Jimbonda mentioned but I hope we will be strengthening the CM options and moving with the times rather than reverting to tactics circa 1992.

The formation isn't dead in my opinion. 4-4-2 just needs the right players playing the right way, same as any formation.

United have always made the wings their strength. The reason we score so many late goals is our wingers charging at defenders and pumping ball after ball into the box.
Though I agree that we do need a strong centre mid signing to compliment them

I suppose if we have a fear factor and teams sit off us it can still work but as said we need top players to do it, players that can deal with possession in tight spaces. At present we dont have those players and as soon as you press a well spread 442 formation gaps appear and the better teams punish us.
I hate seeing us playing 442 in Europe, its stale, very predictable and quite easily stopped by any well organised defence, like newbies on the block all over again.

Overrated. Wouldn't get in ahead of Nani or Valencia for me.

Reports in Spain this morning claim Barca and #Spurs have agreed a €40m deal for Gareth Bale. #THFC need CL football.

In a Premier fantasy world- yes, let's have him.In real world -no or maybe:
1.No-too expensive for our Glazer-budget. 2.Yes,he's good but not 50 mil. quality 3.Doesn't have a right foot.Playing him and Tony V together would be pretty predictable stuff, although sounds entertaining
Maybe: as someone already -YES AS A LEFT FULLBACK,but would Bale accept that role?He could be our left sided Alves.

I believe thats the role Barca want him to fill, Abidal may well quit given his relapse and Barca dont play with conventional wingers.

yeah he's seemed barca bound for a while. i think i read him say he'd like to play abroad one day. sadly this one seems an inevitability. that he's not ripping it up down our left flank is one of the great crimes to football

Surely he'd love to play in the same side as his boyhood hero though in Ryan Giggs?
