I wonder what would be Ed's opening offer for Bale? Unless he's completely oblivious to the transfer market he should know that it would have to match or better Madrids The difference in this and all the other transfers is no one else has been in for any of the other players we officially bid for

Spurs mate of mine just told me BBC are mentioning something about the possibility of selling to Chelsea having been opened with a view to bringing Mata to the Lane.

Hi David this is Ed here over at Manchester United, I have just returned from my trip to the moon and I am interested in signing Gareth Bale.
DL: oh right in that case lets get down to business, what will your offer be?
EW: I am prepared to go no higher than £5 and a box of freddo's, how does that sound?
DL: excellent we will get the papers drawn up now.

It wont be us, even if the 'rival bid' actually exists. I mean for one i would assume theyd rather sell broad than here unless Real have really pissed them off. Secondly the rumoured figures coming from Real are too high a valuation, something we wouldn't match. More expensive than Ronnie, the 40 goal a season (and hatfuls of assists) balon d'or winner who scored something like 200 goals in 197 games for Real. He was/is just such a more complete player, Bale should be excellent, but wont hit anywhere near Ronaldo. Much more reliant on his pace and there have been other players like that who've lost they way in their mid twenties with some dodgy hamstrings/injuries. Owen and Torres come to mind. All this in mind I'd say anything much over £60mill is overpaying.

Looks like we are in for him then and it's not just Levy raising the price.
edit: our involvement probably means the transfer is now £120 million for us, £90 million for Madrid, knowing Levy.
