Chris, i was out of work for about six months (was made redundant) before i ended up in the job i'm in at the moment.
Kind of ended up in the position by accident, i went to an agency, so i was effectively doing part-time work in the company, but i didn't really realise that i was on probation with them. They thought i did reasonably well so i was offered a job after a certain period of time. Been there ever since.
Know how you're feeling, Chris, it was a long time ago but i've been there. Hope something comes up eventually for you.
Even being in a job at the moment, you do try your best to hold it down the best you can. Nothing is certain in any recession.

Not too well in all honesty. I've had many years of mild depression due to jobs over the years and I thought I was over it until this recent news. Not coping well, but people have it worse so you soldier on. Hope ya get sorted mate, no matter how shit things get there is always a way to rise above it, you'll get there Just think mate it could be worse, all those people who have no homes, have no hope in life but to rummage through bins and struggle in poverty and still walk around wearing liverpool tops.

Not too well in all honesty. I've had many years of mild depression due to jobs over the years and I thought I was over it until this recent news. Not coping well, but people have it worse so you soldier on. You know what mate. This year has been the worst year of the 35 I've spent on this planet. There have been times I've literally felt my will to live get up and leave my body. Times when the grill of an oncoming truck has seemed more appealing than facing tomorrow, but, and it's a big but, dark times don't last forever. You get through stuff and when you do (and you will) you come out on the other side stronger, smarter, and a better person than you were before. Somehow you're going to end up living a better future because you're going through hell now. I really believe that. Or...it'll kill you. One of the two. The beauty is, you get to decide. You either rise up and do what ever it takes to make your life behave itself, or you lie down and get out the Vaseline. It's up to you. It's certainly not easy and it's never as pithy as I'm making it sound, but it is true. Make it through this in one piece and you're well on your way to having the life you always wanted. That's been my experience anyway. I owe a massive apology to those waiting for my teaching thoughts. I will take the time to write out something meaningful when I get the chance. I haven't forgotten, it's just that life was kicking my ass there for a while. I'll get it done...eventually.

WK - It's not the teaching that's destroying you is it? Or is it a combination of crappy things?

WK - It's not the teaching that's destroying you is it? Or is it a combination of crappy things? It's been a combination of things, but the absolute least of it has been teaching related.

Well it should go without saying that I hope WK has happier times ahead! I just don't want the profession which I am about to enter into to be the primary reason for his misery!

Well it should go without saying that I hope WK has happier times ahead! I just don't want the profession which I am about to enter into to be the primary reason for his misery! Absolutely not mate. I totally love my job (most days), and the longer I do it the more I learn, grow and become better at it. I've been involved in leading a literacy project this year and a numeracy one next year which have been busy and stressful but amazingly good and completely worth it. My issues have been entirely down to my personal life. Teaching rocks mate! Don't worry about that!
