I am a Plant Engineer at a high school in the biggest school district in South Carolina, and the biggest HS in the district. I have 290,000 square feet of interior space and another 100 acres on two site to take care of. I have 12 employes to help me get the job done, to have the school Secure-Safe and ready to go every day. I personally work with every aspect in all matters, from payroll, to ordering, to working hand on...never a dull moment to be sure.

Finally kickstarted my dream of the RAF a few months back and was due to start basic training last week (passed selection tests/interviews etc) but a few days earlier I ruptured my ACL and tore my miniscul cartilage, any form of ACL injury means the military flat out rejects you for life. So 3 months physio then ACL reconstruction and miniscul tear repair for me!
So now looking for a job if any of you lot have a spare, well paid easy job knocking about ;p

Bit sad they won't take you after it heals. They are pretty good with ACL's these days aren't they?

Lads - I am a newly qualified teacher! Graduated yesterday and started my job last week. I have a class of thirty 8 years olds. I want you all to know that I spent about 3 days putting United stuff all over my classroom. I will try to convert each and every one of them by next summer. Congratulations. Teaching is still a noble career and rewarding.

How about the reserve, do they have lower entry issues that you could sneak through to full time status?

I have been very lucky with five different careers since being expelled from school with no qualifications at 16. My last job was university lecturer in history and Dean of an American academy in Europe. Now I write history books from home - just about to start my third book.

Yeah, if you're a millionaire footballer or you were already in the military but even then it's still case by case and they do all they can to avoid it. But if you're on NHS physio/surgery it's the equivalent of using a bit of blu-tak to hold some shelves up.

Strange that they wont take you after an ACL injury, 2 years after surgery it is stronger than the original.

I know they've got to be strict as hell and all but they also have a huuge recruitment drive over here at the moment, on every TV/radio advert. Not looked at the reserves in detail tbh mate but did would assume they would reject the same injuries too? Will have a good look after I've found a new career though just in case, cheers buddy. Appreciate it from everyone else too, much love.

It's usually 12 months and you're allowed to start the process again after any form of surgery unless it's to do with your spine/ACL and a few other specific parts of the body.

I'm a former office drone, turned foster carer, and am now going back into drone land. I loved Foster care but it is just too difficult to fit it in with an ever expanding troupe of grandchildren.
