Watching Strootman kill it for Roma depresses me. Sack our scouting staff ASAP please. Sack them and get someone who knows what they are doing. And please go all out for Daniele De Rossi this Jan. He is a BEAST. But wait, why would he want to leave a team top of the league playing the way they are, for us..... The decision not to go for Strootman for 17 mill gets worse and worse each week. He's a general for Roma already, a warrior. Gets stuck, uses the ball well, everything we were (and still are) looking for. And despite his alleged lack of pace he seems to cover every blade of grass, unlike a certain, genuinely slow midfielder I could name... surely you can't mean out 27.5 million pound AMAZING midfielder?

If Strootman is slow, then Fellaini is a cripple. Fellaini is nothing in comparison to Strootman. Zilch. Not nearly in the same class.

I cannot believe he has looked so limited and out of his depth. We don't have the personnel to deploy a 4123/4132 either. What exactly he can offer this season beats me.

And if so was that your stance at the time or just in hindsight?

I was against us signing Fellani initially because is only seen him in his role for Everton. One of the lads showed me a few vids of him playing for Belgium where he was very good in a deeper role so I warmed to it. However, he nearly always played with a mobile couple of players alongside, Witsel, De Bruyne etc so I presumed it would be the same for Utd. At no stage did I think playing him with Carrick was remotely clever as it inevitably would be the most immobile midfield we've ever sent out. I wanted is to sign Strootman for far longer, having seen him on a number of occasions and thought he'd be ideal for us.
Here's some advice- next time you ask a mod or an admin a question avoid being a smartarse if you plan on hanging around.

I didn't intend to be a smartarse. I was just asking. I know a lot of fans were against us signing him and some were in favour.

No we should not have signed Fuhlini, not even if he was the last midfielder in the world, not even for free. the Midfielders that have moved about this summer for relievedly no money and we sign that for Twenty-Seven million, Five-Hundred thousand pounds I have also opposed that transfer since before he was signed.

Eriksen was £ 11 or 12 million.
Let that sink in.
I always had my doubts about Fellaini but tried to set them aside as it became obvious he was our only hope of a midfield signing. Thinking about my attempts to justify the signing based on performances so far unsettles my stomach.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Eriksen is an attacking midfielder.
A snip at the price, yes, but look at the situation we have with Kagawa. AS IF we need another one.

The one we let slip was Capoue. He'd injured so we haven't seen much of him but he's a monster.

I wouldn't have minded Paulinho.
But I hadn't seen much of him before he joined Spurs truth be told. No point moaning about it now anyway.

No, I'm comparing what sort of contribution we got for almost £ 30 million to Spurs spending a lot less than half of that. And I think there is some validity in pointing out whatwe could have gotten with what we got.

Not when the player we "could have got" is one we don't need.
If you said say Paulinho, then sure, fair point. But Eriksen wasn't needed.
