No WK, Evra on the wings has never worked. Full backs playing on the wing, however attacking, rarely work. Totally different angles to attack, less space to work in etc. Bale does okay.

Yeah but he was switched very early in his career. And he wasn't much of a full back when he played there! Didn't Spurs have an awful record when he started until he was switched to midfield? But he would be one of the exceptions anyway.

Has Evra on the wings ever worked? I don't know why, but I've got a feeling like this is actually going to happen. Only thing stopping this going through is Everton wanting more than we're willing to offer. I'd expect some form of compromise before pre-season tour time. Especially as we gave them Gibson on the proper cheap back in January, We obviously need to get rid of some dead wood So I can't see why we don't offer players like Ando and Macheda?? (Would say Park too but it looks as if he will be staying)

I'd hate to see us spend big money here, especially considering the lad Alba went for £14m.

But he would be one of the exceptions anyway. Yeah, Bale couldn't really defend in fairness. Still can't. Only reason he fluked it into Spurs' team was Assou-Ekotto got injured and Bale's loan move to Nottingham Forest was cancelled.

I'd hate to see us spend big money here, especially considering the lad Alba went for £14m. As I said in the Euro thread his contract was running down anyway, he cost them a similar amount to Kagawa cost us, so thats pretty par for the course. If its true were interested in Baines its not in our interest to rush anything. Everton holding out for £15mill+ seems far fetched, after all at his age he's a depreciating commodity. They can play hardball but we can just leave it be and Everton will not get a good payday from him. Especially as they're quite financially unsound, thats hardly in their interest. Transfers work both ways, if we are interested I could see negotiating a reasonable fee.

Why do people have a problem with us signing Baines? He gets bags of assists in an Everton team that doesnt score many goals so i'd imagine he'd chip in with a fair few more here, set piece expert corners and free kicks I'd say the second best left back in the league behind Cole, 27 coming into the prime of his career. Can defend and attack. 15million for a proven quality left back isnt much if you think about it, expecially as there is a server lack of brilliant left backs around at the minute that are available, Evra hasnt been at his best for a while so he needs the competition. No players place in the team should be guarenteed and at the moment we dont really have a player to rival Evra for the left back spot so perhaps complacency has creapt into his game, In my view Baines would be a brilliant signing.

i dont think signing baines is a problem as he is a solid leftback in an era where there are not many however the price tag is painfull. the spainish guy is 3 years younger and he went for 14 million euro which is about 11.3 million sterling. now as an attcker alba offers more and defensively i am sure he will pick up the pace if we got him. baines is worth 8 million, lets remember we got paddy for under 6 million a few years back. everton want silly money and they should not be paid that, even 10 million and fabio on loan for a year has to be fab business a true win all round. baines gets the higher platform to push on, everton get cash they so badly need and we get the player we want

Im not one of those saying lets sign baines, cus i think there is better out there imo. im more one of those saying lets just play fabio and boost his confidence and experience. Im also a big evra fan and the twins but i think im blinded by my bias nature towards them cus i think there so good and almost thinking were above signing baines.
but when i look at this vid and think about the prem and the odd everton game I may catch when its not vs united he does get about and gets a lot of crosses into the box he is actually quite good i just might not want to admit it or that he is better than our own fullbacks or as good as them. But i hate to say it he probably is worth that 15 mil but i reckon we will get him for 12 sir Alex is smart man.
got a good left peg
if he does all that shizz for us it will be worth the 12 mil or 15 mil look at goal on 3:22 crosses speak for them selves actually quite intelligent, attack is the best form of defence for full backs now a days ask Jordi Alba and Spain. this is all bearing in mind Vidic is back in defence too

best case imo would be fabio just getting games, he is more than capable and if he does well we will be saving 10 million minimum, add to that hopefully blackett can be ready in a year to makes some appearances, i havent seen him play but from those that mention him seems like he has something about him

I have no problem with us being linked to Baines. I've known him since his Wigan days in the Championship and he's a solid player. Great going forward but really good defensively, which is the important thing. His crossing delivery can be awesome at times, imagine Rooney feeding on crosses from Tony V and Baines all season. He's kept improving as he's grown up too, which is always a bonus sign.
He's at a good age, and shouldn't hinder the progress of Fabio or Blackett in a couple of years, we'd be getting Baines for his peak. Competition for Evra is important, but the ability to rotate him regardless of form is vital. 50+ games a season must take it out of him and we've been over it before that he has looked out of sorts for 20 months. Could be he's exhausted.
My issue is the price. £20 million was absurd, £15 million is still high. I agree with those saying £12/13 million region. Given the decent relationship the Gaffer seems to have with Moyes, and the Gibson deal, hopefully we could wrangle something. Maybe a season long loan for a Will Keane-sort (not There's Only Two Keanos, obviously, as he's injured). Be tempting to even offer Powell a year's stint at Goodison, Moyes is generally excellent with young players and a front two of Powell behind Jelavic could be a decent potential partnership for Moyes to go for it.

It's all well and good saying stick Fabio straight in the team but we all saw how Rafael was at first, very reckless and rash. Fabio has been the exact same when he's played and it'd be a big mistake to chuck him in at the deep end.
People seem to forget that Alba had one year left on his contract, Baines has 3, he's PL proven and a brilliant set piece taker, so I don't think £12m - £15m is too unrealistic. Who are all these alternatives to Baines besides Alba that we should go out and sign? I can't really think of one that's attainable.

Yeah, the fact that he has PL experience is probably a deciding factor. Defensively solid and a good set piece. Debuchy will be on the move, though with Rafael having just signed a new four year deal, that ship seems to have sailed in terms of the RB position. to Chelsea or Newcastle most likely.
Honestly, it seems a LB and a central midfielder are the most likely additions if anyone is to be brought in, with Baines looking ever more likely. I wouldn't mind him, solid player, anything under 15 mil would be good business, preferably 10-12.
