I'm going on what Tatty was alluding to a few weeks back. Well then you must be right - Tatty is actually Fergie and just likes to tease us with tidbits of information from time to time. And no.. Tatty previously alluding to it doesn't necessarily mean he's correct. 'Allude- to contain a casual or indirect reference' ..and i'd say the chances of Tatty being Fergie are slim, but he's entitled to give his point of view if he happens to have some background information. I don't think this forum is a dictatorship from what i can gather.

My enthusiasm for Baines has reduced after seeing that.

Most important stat in that whole article?
"Errors leading to chance" Baines: 0 Evra: 1
Both of these players, for as much as we get at Evra for being unreliable defensively, are generally solid as get out when it comes to not directly fucking up. Those stats though, don't show the number of times each player has been caught out positionally last season, which Evra does a lot and I'd be interested to see for Baines. (Obviously, the article does point that out.) The other thing is Evra may have made more tackles but Baines won more of the tackles he did make, just about.
Plus, Baines' distribution in the attacking thrid is good. Big fan.
@ redcase - Why has your entusiasm waned after seeing those? Surely they're positive, showing that we would be upgrading from one reliable full-back to two?

Baines' upside is his set-piece ability, which we'll no doubt not take advantage of, because it's not the done thing at United...

It's not that besto, its just that for a quoted price of 20 million, I had expected much better stats from Baines. But when you see them, he's not giving you enough to warrant that price tag. I guess that's down to the premium that is expected for English players these days. I don't want us overspending on somebody that will not be such a marked improvement on Paddy. But he will definitely provide Paddy the desired competition for that spot. Just get it down to 13-15 million and that's perfect.

Ah right, totally get you. I agree, £20 million is far too much, but I am warm to the idea of £15 million downwards. Preferrably £12/13 million exactly actually, funny you say it!

Fergie's always talking about the age profiling of the squad. If the plan is that Fabio goes out and makes a name for himself at 21, then returns to provide competition, that means Baines fits in nicely at 27, being 4 years younger than Evra.

I was thinking about the same ,fabio will get just the right amount of experience to bed in nicely and when it is perfect can take over , while Baines would have got the senior profile , as i see paddy moving on after maybe another season

The problem with his price is its always going to be high,I don't understand for the life of me how British based layers are pretty much always ridiculously high above their actual value. It's seems that prices must start either at or around the 20m mark before you begin. This is the reason I'd leave Baines to one side for now. We dont need a LB ATM anyway I'd rather concentrate on our weakest position then acess the situation around january. If theres no issues then don't worry too much.

Young, sort of, springs to mind. not having that. very inconsistent with his set pieces / delivery is young. the amount of corners i've seen him take that haven't cleared the first man and he doesn't strike me as a threat with his free kicks either. that's young for you, his whole game blows hot and cold
