A Specific thread on our midfield "targets" for this summer, I think it's evident on the forum that we're expecting a change in philosophy and formation this coming season, with a new formation implemented which is likely to be a 4-2-3-1 ; --------------DDG Rafael-----Evans----Rio----Evra ----------Carrick------ ?? Tony V---------Kagawa-------Young/Nani -----------Roo/Hernan/Welbz Anyway the signing of Kagawa seems close, I expect him to play his favored attacking midfield role, with the two deep lying midfielders. Carrick and Scholes are very similar, they're ball users/playmakers in the deep lying role, and taking into account their other attributes it's clear we need a Box to Box midfielder, or a complete destroyer.A player who can win the ball back, and is far more mobile than the two mentioned. I've listed the players we've been linked to in the poll as well as some others who i think could fit the mold. I've listed all I can think of, I'd like it if we sign two of the above, knowing that 1 is far more likely, a playmaker and a destroyer. Song would be my choice first choice, other than that Modric and Tiote. Should spark some interesting debate on the different partnerships people envisage on here, and where you see the youngsters like Clevers fitting in.

Pretty sure Alaba is a left-back.

Yes, we definitely need a midfield signing or two.
EDIT: Top choice has to be Martinez. All the class on the ball of a Spaniard but all the build and 'robustness' ofa German.
Alaba, I also thought was a left back, but he plays in a sitting midfield role for Bayern sometimes.

Alaba can play both.
Martinez would be perfect. He could even fill in at centre back when required.
I'd take ANY of these players though.

Yeap, any of these would walk into our starting line-up.
Would be helpful if we could put a price next to each, enabling us to see the cheapest option and, after that, we can start a thread for that player as he'd be the most likely option.

Asamoah stands out here as a value option at under 15, if Tiote were available for around 15/16 then that'd be immense value too. Edit: I can't help but picture Modric next to Carrick in that formation, ye old spurs connection - that'd be quite devastating with Kaggy in front of them

Fellaini's one I was thinking about.
If we're going to sign an overpriced Everton player it should be him not Baines.

Sahin for me, although Martinez / Schweinsteiger / Modric would be ideal, I can't see us spending the required amount on them. Another player I wouldn't mind is Witsel, he'd be a realistic target as well. I like Tiote as a player and he's great at what he does (breaking down play etc) but but he's not got the passing capabilities of the others.

Is this dream scenario or realistic? Because Schweinstiger is about as realistic as us getting Xavi. MArtinez is the best one that is available from the list but I have to say Demebele was very, very good against England yesterday. I hadn't seen a lot of Fulham in recent years but he was head and shoulders above any midfeilder last night. More than lived with Gerrard (who was laughably named MoM) I know he was dismissed on here ( i actually had no comment about him as i had nothing to go on) but he seemed liked a good passer, strong, mobile and tough. Is he the answer? No idea. But I certainly wouldn't mind us looking at him strongly.

I actually think Tiote doesn't get enough credit for his passing. People go on and on about how great Barca are at passing the ball 4 feet, and Tiote can do that. He both surprised and impressed me last season with his ability to pop off a quick, accurate pass and move the play.
Song is on there because he can tackle and pass. I'd presume.
It's funny tommy mentioned Fellaini when just yesterday during the England friendly my da walked past and commented we could do a lot, lot worse. I agreed. Especially for £15 million-ish if we could. What about Rodwell from the Toffees if we're spending real money down there?

I think Everton paid around £18m for Fellaini, so he should cost a lot more unless his contract is running down.
Tiote`s passsing is under-rated, I myself thought he was a hacker until you (Bestie) suggested I took a closer look at his all round game.I did and was impressed and I continue to be impressed with the lad.I was always against signing Africans due to them fucking off for 2 months mid season every two years to play in the ACON, now that this season will be the last mid season comp it will no longer be an obstacle.
According to the Mail on Sunday Newcastle quoted us £20m for Tiote, I would pay it.

Rodwell's a no go for me. People are complaining about Anderson's injury-proneness, Rodwell's fitness is just as bad, plus I can't see him being the top player he looked like he could be a few years back, IMO.
Fellaini's bobbins, has about 5 good games a season, but his passing is pretty average and he commits too many silly fouls. Also, he doesn't score enough from set-pieces considering his height.
