Fun fact: Modric only started 25 out of 38 league games last season, of which he was substituted off in 8.

Only? That's good! At least, in FM with my rotation policy it is pretty good.

I'd be underwhelmed if Modric was our big signing this summer. He's a decent player but a big step down from some of the names we've been linked with, realistic or otherwise. Especially after the bid for Fabregas. Really? Each to their own of course but I think he’s a wonderful player, little Modders. It's not that I don't think he's good enough to play for United or anything because he'd obviously get into our midfield. It's more that we thought we were signing a player in Thiago who has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the world, and we're currently being linked with Fabregas who, if he returns to England, will comfortably be the best midfielder in the Prem. There was also a brief 5 minutes yesterday when we though Mata was a possibility. As good as Modric is, he's a step down from those players I think. Particularly Fabregas.

Food for thought: I've a friend who's a friend (lol) of Mr. Luka Modric, and I didn't really believe him when he said Modric was going to leave for Madrid, but he did. Mind, I still don't really believe him mainly because it wasn't prophesy - it was quite a good chance that Modric was most likely going to leave for Spain back then. But for what it's worth, this time he's saying Mr. Modric hasn't even brought up about any kind of transfer thoughts - seeing that he's enjoying his new life as a Madridista. Still think my mate's just ****king around. But I'm quite pessimistic that Modric would even consider to move - especially only after just one year at the Utopia that Madrid is.

Now with Moyes publically announcing Woodward is working on the Fabregas deal I think we can put this one on ice for time being.

Now the Fabregas deal is dead in the water, maybe it's time to defrost the thread again?! I'd love to see Modric in a United shirt, I think he'd be perfect for us, although like other recent targets (real, or imagined) I don't think he's even in the frame to move.

Modric HAS to be our next target indeed. Vastly superior to the likes of Fellaini or Cabaye. But sadly I can see us going after someone we're more confident in getting. Missing out on both Thiago and Fabregas has hurt this club badly, and we're in danger of being completely left behind in the transfer race. City have signed 4 players for about £100m, bar fringe players like Zaha and Varela we haven't signed anyone. I'm worried that Moyes will feel the pressure even more now after the Fabregas fiasco. He'll probably feel he needs to get something done quickly, enter Cabaye... an easy player to price away with promise of CL football and higher salary! We're sure to overpay for him as well, classic United transfer

We'll see. There's already talk of Zaha going back on loan in January , it all depends on how much playing time he gets. With Nani, Valencia and Young already in the team he'll most likely come off the bench for most of the season.

They'd compliment each other brilliantly. Modric is effective from a much deeper position than Kagawa. I agree with TheKing7 - Modric has to be the target ahead of Cabaye. Far superior.

Zaha will be a good player for us next season.

Do you even watch football? Zaha isn't going to be a fringe player.

Do you even watch football? Zaha isn't going to be a fringe player. I agree I went a bit too far with the 'Fringe player' comment. That's not really what I meant. What I meant was that I don't think he'll be an automatic starter like someone like Bale, Fabregas, Modric would have been. I was making the point that we haven't signed any immediate starters yet in the transfer window. FWIW I really rate Zaha a lot and from what I've seen so far he's impressed me loads.
