Not sure I'd pay that money for him to be honest.

i'd say if there's any problem with ando by the jan window and he's injured or not playing well then we should look at another mid.
might also depend on cleverleys form. these two are the reason Fergies not bought a mid. (plus the fact he's spent 40mil which some believe is about tops per year)

Has Cleverley had a bad game for United yet?

Did he? Don't remember ever seeing a bad display from the boy. His only problem is his injury record. Hopefully he won't have any problems this year.
Got to confess when Rooney got injured vs Fulham I actually thought it was Clevers at first and I was actually relieved that it was only Rooney.

No he hasn't. He might have looked a wee bit off the pace when he came back at the tail end of last season from a long term injury but anytime he's been fit and played at least a half he's been excellent.
To say he's had a few "stinkers" is completely untrue but it ties in with Jim's scrooge-esque policy when it comes to doling out praise, however faint, for Cleverley.

around the time of the bilbao games he was poor, and a passenger in a couple of games. i'm not scrooge-like with criticism, it's you lot who are a bit OTT when dishing out praise for him IMO, and a classic example stu is you claiming cleverley has never had a bad game.
he's quick, mobile, plays a decent passing game. my concern is that he hasn't got many goals in him, or a bit of magic to turn a game. like what dan said about Giggs playing that ball for owen to score the late winner in the 4-3, and he's right. he's the player you'd put your money on to make that pass. does cleverley have that in his game? we'll see.
it's early days yet in his united career so i'm not writing him off, i'm just sat on the fence. hopefully my doubts get proved wrong this season

I'd actually completely forgotten that Bilbao game and Cleverley so i stand corrected. He was indeed poor, as was everyone else that night bar DeGea and Rooney.

He probably doesn't but unlike Giggs in centre mid he won't give away about 8 passes before he makes that killer ball. Given our problems last year hanging on to the ball when pressed I'd put more of a premium of our central midfielders keeping it and letting the likes of Kagawa, Tony V Rooney and Nani do the damage with the slide rule passes. That's just me though, I can understand others wanting a guy in there to unlock defences despite most of them not coming off.

that is true and an upside to his game, he looks like he has good savvy and won't give the ball away too much, even when he's under a bit of pressure.

With Tom I think, at this stage in his career, is somebody that understands the merits of keeping it simple. I don't think he has a Scholes type 65 cross field ball to a winger. Anderson does. and they look glorious. He can also put a 5 yarder straight to the opposition in a very dangerous situation. But so far I haven't seen Clevs really go to pieces in a game the way Anderson can. Ando is really a 4 out of 10 or 8 out of 10 player (obviously this is a generalisation) with little in between. Think with Tom you get 6.5/7 out of 10 nearly all the time. I think the other things will come with experience and time. You can see he's spent most of his life watching Scholes very closely. His movement and finding space are very similar.

yeah i'd agree with all of that. a much more realistic view of cleverley than a lot of stuff i've read / heard.
with time and luck he might show he's got a bit extra.
