Not suprisingly, we're being linked with him today in the Mirror. It's in an article with some Baines talk here: www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leighton-baines-admits-everton-may-be-forced-946928People were talking about him in the Euro thread the other night. I think he'd be fantastic for Utd. He's matured into the player he looked like becoming (Jimbonda pointed this out I think) and would be considerably cheaper than Modric. He was outstanding against the Spainish midfield which is something of a benchmark. Made his tackles, passed well and most importantly didn't give the ball away when being pressed, a commodity we all know Utd lack right now. Thoughts?

From what i saw at the euro's he looks very good, might even be better at club level with united? but what is considerably lower than modric what price are we talking. And is it worth chasing a player who forced a move to Porto would he want to move to us? if he does want a move i say sign him he looks like energy and intelligence with a good touch

I've seen 25 to 30 million mentioned. Levy won't even talk to Utd about Modric for anything less than 40 mill. Which is insane obviously.

Levy makes me laugh. But I am all IN for Moutinho. He was fantastic in the Euros. If that's the standard of his play at club level, then fuck yeah, get him in.

On 3 July 2010, Moutinho signed a five-year contract with F.C. Porto. The player fell under heavy criticism for forcing a transfer to a rival club after spending 10 years in Sporting's youth ranks, also being one of the team's star players and captain. Sporting chairman José Eduardo Bettencourt described Moutinho's conduct as deplorable: "If I had not experienced the situation, I would not believe it was possible to descend so low". Sporting awaited offers from other clubs but Moutinho forced the transfer to Porto: "We tried to get him to wait longer, so that there might be some offers from abroad, but Joao lost his temper and forced an exit to FC Porto, telling us that he had given his word to FC Porto".[5][6] After this, he became a persona non grata at the club, being called a rotten apple: "The deal was done because Sporting wanted it, because it did not want a rotten apple in its orchard, and it did not want someone who was not an example, nor dignified the flag of the club."[7] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo%C3%A3o_MoutinhoWhile I think Moutinho is a good player, I dont want him at United, what he done at Sporting is like Vida forcing a move to City. Are we that desperate for quality that we abandon our "right character" policy that has been so successful over the years and kept the total of arse-holes in our squad down to nearly none, with Tevez and Heinze(after he took the hump) being the rare exceptions.

Wayne Rooney. Was a complete Arse-hole , but has now been forgiven? Who is to say over the 5 years Moutinho has spent at Porto, he has not changed either? On a separate note, just found out that Milan snatched Montolivo on a free transfer . On a free transfer surely he was worth looking at ?

It was only 2 years ago. Definitely tainted him in my eyes. I dont think buying someone on the back of International comps is a good idea anyway otherwise Milan Baros would be our number 9!.He has only really impressed playing for Portugal and some players are transformed playing for their National sides.
He was linked with Everton for years, I didnt fancy him at Sporting, couldnt see what all the fuss was about and thought Everton was his level.Porto, while successful in Europa and domestically do nothing in the CL and thats where we measure our success, Moutinho done nothing against Arsenal when they played Porto, he looked average. He also plays his best stuff behind the front men, where Rooney Kagawa, Powell and Petrucci would all prefer to play.

I was and still am convinced that SAF was behind that little melodrama, it loosened the purse strings and Rooney signed the same contract he was originally offered.Even if it was true, I totally agreed with the story that was put out, I still question the Glazers ambition to us as a successful Football team, who doesnt?Who are we going out and buying?Didnt we sell the WPOTY and not significantly strengthen? Are we not some fat greedy cunts big creamy milkshake? I would sell Rooney if the right offer came in anyway, he is an overated oaf.How a pro athlete allows his weight and form to fluctuate so alarmingly is borderline reckless/stupid IMO.I dont think we will see WR at the top level when he turns 30, never mind 38. Montolivo would have been a steal, cracking player.I hope we at least sounded that out.

"Moutinho done nothing against Arsenal when they played Porto"
Neither did Kagawa bar slot in a tap in. Doesn't make him any less of a player.

True but the only time I have seen Moutinho play well is this summers Euros and he had his Nations interests at heart, one swallow doesnt make a summer and he has never really impressed me before that, before the Euros the only English club linked with him was Everton, even though he was touted from an early age as a potentially quality player, added to that he acted like a total cock to the team he grew up in and Captained to join their bitter rivals.I would avoid.
Its just my opinion, if SAF wants him he will sign him regardless of what I think.
