Praise the lord! A left back. Just what the doctor ordered!

erm who in the blue hell is Buttner?
We couldn't have a player with a name like that. Asking for trouble.

Was apparently in the Dutch provisional squad but missed out. Could be ideal understudy if not necessarily challenging Evra for his spot.

Manchester United are set to bolster their cover at left back by signing the Vitesse Arnhem defender Alexander Büttner, according to reports in Holland.
De Gelderlander, the Dutch media source, claims that Büttner will have a medical as soon as tomorrow and that he has described the transfer as a “dream move”.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson indicated ahead of Friday’s press conference to welcome another Dutch player, Robin van Persie, that he would be interested in signing another player if the right one became available.
With Fabio’s move on loan to QPR, United are light on numbers in the full back positions, particularly at left back, where Patrice Evra was the subject of criticism by many supporters for a number of errors last season.
Leighton Baines has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and it seemed only a matter of time until he left tomorrow’s opponents Everton to sign for United yet their asking price of around £15m seems to have been way too steep for Ferguson.
De Gelderlander report that Büttner was previously set for a move to Southampton – who failed to hold on to a 2-1 lead at Manchester City earlier today – but the move fell through after the Saints refused to pay an extra instalment on the transfer.
Büttner has played 107 games for Vitesse and has scored 10 goals; he will be the first player since Raimond van der Gouw in 1996 to transfer from Vitesee to Manchester United. The 23 year old was part of the provisional Holland squad for the European Championships, and can play in either full back position.

Why not I'd say, if it's under 5 mil? We've spent far more on far worse players.
Plus, we need cover there.
He's apparently pretty attack-minded so pretty like-minded cover. hopefully he's solid if indeed this is true.

Sounds good. Young enough, but not too young. Should be cheap. Versatile. And if he was good enough to make Holland's provisional squad he probably isn't shite. Although, Jetro Williams did get in ahead of him!

10 goals in 107 games is a good record for a left back. Evra has only scored a couple. I'm guessing this lad can maybe play at left wing too.

The Gaffer (and Rio, and Giggs, and Scholesy) would soon sort that out.
