Who?
Hope he does well. Welcome to United! Kudos to the scouts if he turns out decent for us.

Don't worry. He will be awesome. He is my childhood friend and has nutmeg-ed me on many occasions. That takes some doing #welcome#

nice to see that we are getting that LB that we need. 107 apps. at 23 years of age shouldn't be easily dismissed. and he looks to have some edge about him, a little intimidating with the ink sleeve. always a plus! hope this works out.
however, is this the player SAF was referring to about 'being available'?

Its either going to be him or Kaka so weve got 1 lets hope we get the other as well.

I'm inclined to think we've scouted this guy for a good while and know exactly what we're getting. Evra wasn't all that when we got him, certainly no-where close to what he developed into so I think we've not just looked at this lad as short term backup but as an eventual replacement for Pat. Very interesting signing, and one which just re-affirms what some had begun to doubt. We actually have a decent scouting system - this came out of no-where. Jay, you're spot on. You've made some very valid points there. We would have been watching Alexander Buttner for at least a year or longer, or we would have been at least aware of him from a while back. That's the way we operate, also we would have been looking at Buttner's general attitude, finding out what's he like etc, etc...alongside obviously watching how he performed generally. Also we do sometimes watch players who would be considered to be under the radar a bit, Buttner is probably an example of it. Also Buttner's age fits Fergie's general policy for want of a better word, so age wise he fits the bill. Probably as you say he's a long-term replacement.

If Buttner does have the ability to put away penalties, that would be another bonus, someone else in the squad who can step up and take them.
Remember Denis Irwin, left back banging in peno's for fun..!

butt-naked jokes on their way..... I'd say this lad could be the Bütt-ner of a few jokes between now and the end of the season.

Wonder if Buttner can take a free-kick?

A Defender who can play at bot RB and LB, also can score, can Take the Pen's. Hmm +1 to our scouting team. Never heard of him up till now, but 107 appearances by 23 and 10 goals in that is impressive. Hope he can get slotted into the team real quick. By the Looks of the Vids he seems pacey so that will help as well. Fits into Fergie's Plan of Building a team for the future.
My god the next manager whoever he is sure got his job much easier i'd say , With the team and playerx in place

Good post. The only thing it can't chart is Pat's biggest problem imo, his getting caught out of position. But I think a lot of that is fixable, we just need to be more careful with his forward runs. He shouldn't need to spend most of a game as an auxillary winger now with the firepower we have.
