Still shock me how he isn't a bit more toned, looks strange for a footballer, I can't think of anyone else who looks as bad with their top off as him in the football world....gaaaaaaaaaaaaay Anderson, Ronaldinho, "Fat" Ronaldo...? Where ever the quotes are coming from, it definitely paints Rooney in a softer, more sympathetic light. Maybe a chance to rid some of the past "wrongs" he had done. Or am I just over thinking?

Hahahaha that got me ;D Seriously though, why does everyone seem adamant he's going? I see no problem with him staying, he's within shout of our record number of goals. Exactly, be hes still not good enough to some people. Some think hes a fuckin android that wont stop for 90mins and score 3 a game. They forget its not against the law to have a bad game, bet you not 1 united fan that's calling for his head now wanted him gone when hes won us the game or scored a sensational goal for us. (yes that overhead again). Yeah he's been one of our most influential players for a few seasons. Especially when he had that talismanic season after Ronaldo left. We look more varied when he plays, when his heading got better he became more potent. His game has changed a lot though, he realises the importance of fashioning a better chance and passing than trying to lob the keeper from 40 yards like he did when he was younger. Plus pretty sure we can all say we have footballers bodies thanks to Wazza

I can assure people the Rooney and his shooting discussion on this forum has gone on its head over the last 4/5 years. Before it was about Rooney wasting too many chances from distance, trying elaborate chips to often and what not. Now he's lost/stopped that but scores more often and more regularly there's the occasional peppering of criticism that he doesn't score the hollywood goals anymore. Some people, never satisfied

Rooney, wasting elaborate chips? Don't be daft. Salt, vinegar, and maybe a nice bit of cheese? That's not elaborate! Seriously though, we complain now that all he tries from ranger is that FIFA finesse shite. Lash them Wayne, like you did when football was just a game you played and happened to get paid for.

The thing is though Bestie, he's too quick to release R2, which inevitably puts him off balance when trying to put power through his shot.
Someone needs to tell him to hold sprint down just that fraction longer, follow through and finesse it with as much left analog as possible. He'll be hitting them in no time!

(Not having a PS3 of any of the recent FIFAs - still playing PES '10 - I will trust that's how you take a finesse shot.) Bugger any finesse, just laces and anger!

Perhaps all of this media stuff has helped Wazza figure out what he really wants, In an interview hes said he wants to finish his career at the club. Granted its all words and they often get broken but looking at this positively this could be a good sign. He could realise where hes gone wrong and build on that.
I hope now he comes back stronger than before, proves people wrong and sets up a dominating partnership with RVP.

So I thought I'd dig out this thread now Rooneys back and playing. Plenty of posts in here bemoaning Rooneys decline as a player, his all-around play regressing, to him becoming just some kind of poacher who can be detrimental to our play. Talk about knee-jerking over a bit of poor form. 5 assists in 3 games, he's back from injury and looking sharp. Like I said earlier in the thread he's just so much easier to criticise by some these days. I stand by that he's our second most gifted passer behind Scholes, even if some think he's not in the top 6.

I think he needs to be playing deeper to keep that sharpness, he looks a much better player there and will only get better.

He needs to start scoring though. Not just to get United the points, but to also get my dream team some points. I've fell way behind these last few weeks!

'his touch is shit, he can't pass wind' blah blah he's a top player. there are areas of concern but he's answered questions plenty of times in the past. people called him a liability, then he answered that last season when he was unlucky not to see out the entire season without a booking. i get the impression there'll always be a debate about rooney unless he scores shitloads of goals for england in a tourney, even then some people will still be unhappy. all the talk of 'lets move him to midfield' annoys me as well. nope, he's a number 10, he's what 26 years old? there might be a change of position for him at some point but i don't see it in the forseeable. the rooney / van persie partnership could win us big pots over the next few years. hopefully the emergence of kagawa as a real force and a potential rival for the spot will drive waz on even harder.

said in OP that his reaction to getting dropped [and also as it turned out injured and out the picture] would be interesting. well so far so good. more to come

I was happy with where he's currently playing and influencing the game in the Newcastle game. That formation and tactic can work (finally...) and I hope that the staff will continue to improve on it. Kagawa - Rooney - RvP can be devastating. I really like the fluidity that we played with - where no man was stuck to a certain position, the movement was the there, the goals were there - especially when it came from all around the team and not just dependent on our strikers. Rafael, RvP, Welbeck, Rooney all had a decent pop at goal on addition to Evra, Evans and Cleverley's goals.
This is the much more of the Rooney that I'd like to see TBH. Let RvP and Chicharito play the front man. Plus, I realised one thing - Rooney is beginning to take shots from outside the box. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
Of course, this is only one game so far and there's that stupid international week to dampen our momentum (hope not), but like I said before, the 15th game mark will be the decider for me.

It is conceivable he could drop deeper eventually, he has the skill-set to do it certainly, just like Scholes dropped deeper. I agree it might not be ideal at the moment, but at least we have RvP to lead the line now so we're less reliant on Rooneys goals. Indeed it does look like its brought out the right reaction in Rooney even if he isn't among the goals. Hopefully we can find a way of getting the best out of Kagawa Rooney and RvP on the pitch at the same time. Yesterdays set up was decent, but would be better off with one of our wingers rather than Welbeck.
