I could stand to lose a few lbs, and I've started having an evening walk just before my tea-time, and I'm slowly cutting down on pizza, cola and beer to help in weight-loss. Is there something else I can be doing without going to a gym, tried it, not for me, or becoming a real food nazi?
My evening meals mainly consist of meat and two types of veg and some form of potato, lunch is usually some form of sandwich with fruit and water, and breakfast, which wildly fluctuates to a few slices of toast, cereal or a fry-up.
I'll be investing in a bicycle in the new year I think, so if I get a new job within cycling distance I'll be cycling to work. I just feel like there's something else I could be doing to make the weight drop off a little quicker.
And before any questions, I've already lost 4lbs since doing this walking thing for the last month or so.

if you've lost 4lb's in a month then thats pretty good going. Losing weight is not only about eating right, its about having the right state of mind to stick with it.
the wild fluctuation in food probably isnt helping but once you cut pizza and especially coke you'll lose lots more and you'll feel better.

I know the feeling mate, although ive got more than a few pounds to lose lol,
I'm starting back up weds so might check in on this thread as it progresses. Cycling is one of the better exercises you can do as its low impact so your not fucking your joints up like you would running. Well that's the case for me anyway.
Have to get into the habit of eating better as well as all I'm doing it drinking fizzy drinks and crap food. Oh and beer which is now gone for the foreseeable future.
Gl with it tat neway, hope you get there, will just take more determination that effort.

Short run every day before dinner.
I can't talk though, I was doing it then stopped because I'm lazy and it started getting colder.

Its quite a high carbohydrate intake, if you're having toast/sandwich/potato each day. Drop that down a bit if you want to lose some weight quickly. when I went on a diet, I basically cut each portion of carb (potato/pasta/bread etc) by a third, which is a good non 'Nazi' way). Cycling would be good, something that actually gets your heart-rate up unlike walking which has its benefits. Weight loss down to simplest terms is simple - Energy going in versus Energy going out. Youve got the right idea into cut down on food and increase on exercise, to do it faster, keep going further. Another thing I've heard of which my 'in Laws' are doing, is some intermittent fasting diet. Its something along the lines of eat normally 5 days a week and 2 day where you consume no more 600 calories. Well at least its something like that and there's a Horizon programme on it. Helps with weight loss and also apparently removes a lot of markers for heart disease and even some cancer and stuff. something to do with messing with the bodies chemicals, but understanding of what happens isnt that high I think. *Edit'* i see i was beaten to it above

diet is still something i'm working on, but for the opposite effect. i want to bulk up.
from what i've read (and iv read a LOT) the 6 smaller meals per day instead of 3 large ones works for weight loss as much as it does for weight gain.
don't cut out the carbs, just make sure they are complex carbs (brown bread / pasta / rice etc instead of white). complex carbs, protein from white meat / fish / eggs, fruit, veg, nuts/seeds for oils and fresh water are the backbone of a good diet, again, whether you are trying to gain or shift.
just eat small and regularly from the above, every 2-3 hours. train til you sweat. have a treat once a week or so or you'll go mad.

Just managed to snag some mates to do 5-a-side once a week, so that's gonna help. I'm really not into dieting or counting calories, seems like way too much effort. I figured I might need to cut down the carbs, but potatoes, bread and pasta are all so delicious. Managed to cut the beer to 3 pints a week, even less if United aren't on, and replacing that with lime and soda or coke, but might move onto coke zero or diet coke. Cheers for the tips lads. Except Bestie, I'm fat, girls don't like fatties, hence the weight loss scheme...

5 a side is a good move. especially if it's competitive like at Goals or something. it absolutely mullers you, stick with it and you'll become fit. even if its just friendlys against 5 other mates it's still good.
coke zero is good, thats what i drink cos im trying to take in as little sugar as poss. it's obviously not as nice as the real shit. but it's still good.

does not linking going to the gym equate to not liking exercise? if not grab urself some stress/resistance bands and do some research on exercises that can be done from home, there are loads of examples on the net, completely free of cost (the exercises that is, not the bands. though those are fairly cheap too)
if u don't want to invest in any equipment, i have heard only good things about the P90X workout, but it can be VERY intense.

I've never been massive, but this summer I decided to finally do something about that spare tire I'd been developing since my metabolism slowed down.
I'm not sure what you would define as a food Nazi, but I cut out all red meat and any foods high in fat or empty calories. I ended up eating a lot of fish/seafood, chicken/turkey, salad, spinach, fruit, raw vegetables, fat free yoghurt, and wild rice.
I've never been a beer drinker, but I continue to drink copious amounts of white wine which doesn't seem to be a problem, but probably doesn't help even though it's necessary for my sanity these days. 😑 I've lost about 20lbs since about June without really hitting the gym. The problem is I didn't really want to lose the weight everywhere, so I've got to start bulking up and covering those bones with muscle.
I'm not saying this would work for everyone, but I'm loving it so far.
EDIT: The biggest thing is to start paying attention to what you eat. Check out the nutritional info of everything and avoid eating out. A huge part of a food's food value comes from how it's prepared. If you don't know how, google a few simple recipes and learn to cook. Finally, don't give in to temptation. I've gotten nothing but abuse from the family as a result, but I've stuck with it.

I lost about 3 stone a number of years ago (put it back on now but that's beside the point!), I just ate less than I was and started walking everywhere.
I realised it was taking me over half an hour to get to work by bus, and tried walking to see how long it took. Only took me a few minutes more, and I enjoyed being out walking on my own immeasurably more than sitting cramped on a bus, and paying a tenner a week for that privilage.
On the food subject, I was having full plates of whatever I ate, and feeling well full as a result. I cut that down, started eating smaller portions which might not have left me feeling stuffed but still full enough. Didn't try to take the junk food or beer away, I couldn't stop drinking so wasn't even stupid enough to attempt it, but it worked like a charm for me, went from 15 and a half to 12 and a half stone in a couple of months.
There's a million and one diets out there, but the simplest line worked best for me, and that's "If you're consuming more calories than you are burning you will not lose weight, no matter what you're eating." At the end of the day you can eat the healthiest food there is, and your overall health will improve as a result, but if that food amounts to 3000 calories a day, and you only burn 2500 a day, the weight isn't going to come off; remember, you can be overweight but still healthy, and you can be slim and unhealthy.
As I say, the walking worked a treat for me personally, I was walking 5 miles a day to work and back, as well as working in a job where I spent most of the day on my feet, but obviously I don't know if you're in a position where that's something you could do.
Good luck with it in any case!
