How good is Joe Root at the moment? Unbelievable year he's having, especially considering how poorly the rest of the side has generally performed. Over 9,000 test runs from him now, he's actually ahead of where Tendulkar was after the same number of tests. Still certain we'll lose the Ashes but in this form at least he gives England some kind of fighting chance. Looks like it will be Root & Anderson v The Aussies

What an absolutely riveting day of cricket from the Oval v India today. England 77-0 at stumps chasing a target of 368. Roll on tomorrow!

India test match cancelled cos the Indian coaching staff broke the bubble and had a covid outbreak.
I'm now missing Ronaldo return on Saturday and not going to the cricket on Sunday now! Great weekend.
Least I've got New Order at Heaton Park tonight

First ball of the Ashes, and out.
Jesus it's gonna be a painful series.
Edit - 11 for 2 now. Just give them the 5-0 now and let everyone get on with their lives.

Booked tomorrow and Friday off work so I could get some Ashes action in.
Glad I missed yesterday's shitshow. Good start by England but Steve Smith MKII coming in and Steve Smith to follow really fucking worries me.

Any none Aussie biased posters that end up watching the Ashes, I highly recommend muting BT and syncing your Test Match Special live commentary to the TV. It took a couple of minutes to get bang on, but I don't have to listen to three Aussies shout over each other instead

Very much doubted I was going to say this the same time yesterday, but I'm looking forward to today. Malan and Root look in great nick, Root especially. If those two can stay in the first couple of hours and build a small lead, then Stoakes and Buttler play their natural game, the possibility is there to pile some runs up. Still highly likely Australia win but at least we've shown some fight.

Root playing a blinder again, perfect batting conditions really, and Australia missing Hazelwood and Cummins.
Fair play to Malan too, another solid knock from him.

Aus really going for the humiliation here by coming back in instead of making us follow on

After Malan and Root ,who both played beautifully , the collapse was bloody awful, and inevitable, given their utter lack of confidence. These are not, in the main, bad players either. Extremely frustrating.
