Barcelona were shut off and therefore were frustrated and played like shite yesterday. I'm not sure how Ruud Gullit is respected by you guys, but even he noticed that Barcelona were forced off their game and had to resort to a "plan B" - which was asking Barcelona's tallest player, Pique, to go farthest up field and launching crosses at him.
Barcelona may be the best team of recent years - I don't think many people will disagree - but they aren't unbeatable, neither are they tactically unstoppable or players unplayable.

Haven't read the last few pages so someone might have mentioned this but i think it's widely forgotten/ignored that Barca only got to those two finals aginst us due to some unbelievably poor desicions. RVP being sent off for Arsenal, that was a fucking joke!

I think it's a combination of the two. Let me ask you something, when United lose to "lesser" opposition are you on here saying "fair play, we did everything we could, they were just better than us". No you're not. Because we're better than them, so we have to do something wrong for them to beat us. I already said I'm in no way trying to discredit Milan, and it was their hard work and organisation (and composure in attack) which turned a slight off day for Barca into a shock 2-0 loss, and very possibly, elimination from the tournament (though I still think Barca can do it). Most of the time, no, of course not. But at least sometimes we all hold our hands up and say we were beaten by the better side. 2009 European Cup final comes to mind. If we had lost to say, Southampton a few weeks ago, we couldn't have complained, as they out-played us completely. The other point to do with that is apparently Milan, or Dortmund, are all so inferior sides that they are equated to "lesser" opposition we face. You are still saying that A. C. Milan wouldn't have beaten Barcelona if they hadn't been lucky enough to catch Barca having an off day. And that's still just silly. Teams can force bad days. Any team can out-think, out-prepare, and out-organise any other. That's football. No team, is immune to that. Not even the media-beloved Barcelona. Classic case was Europa Cup last year. Other teams wanted it more & forced us into terribble performances. Didn't watch the game so might be talking out my ass but Milan wanted it more.

I can see what both camps are getting at. Yes, you do need Barca to under perform to beat them, however "Luck" insinuates that it's all about Barca and not the team they're playing, whereas the likes of Milan, Inter, Celtic and Chelsea (thinking of '09 not last season, even though they lost) had made Barca under perform due to their own performance, so lucky is a bit of an insult to them Sure if the first comment to Allegri in his press conference yesterday was "Wow, you must feel so lucky that Barcelona played bad eh?" He would have been pretty pissed off. They under performed because Milan forced them to under perform. An analogy (albeit a bit of a crap one) would be like sidling up to the hottest bird in the bar and asking her out. She says yes your mates are naturally gonna go straight to the "Lucky twat" line. (unless anyone on here is a handsome devil and this is a regular occurance, in which case, fuck you and the horse you rode in on). Compared to knowing the hottest bird around and spending weeks asking questions about her to people who know, her taste in men, her favourite drink, does she know how hot she is or one of these birds who doubts herself, does she like to be chased, is it better to chat to her mates and ignore her, etc, etc, etc. Then, asking her out knowing all you know and having her say yes. It's not luck (or at least it's not just luck) if she says yes, you've done your homework on her and know everything about her, now fill yer boots (and who cares if it's stalking, thats for the courts to decide). There is a gameplan to beat Barca, the teams that have have all done it the same way, and they can be forced to play below their best due to the opposition tactics. Obviously this tactic isn't going to always work, else they would never win a game, but it will a few times a season. Just not doing any work on the way they play and going out without a plan is not going to see them lose a game all year. Can't relate this to football, It's actually giving me a headache trying!!! Cool story though.
