Apologies if i have done this wrong/ put this in the wrong place/ a similar thread already exists. This is the first thread I've created.
So most people know that Lionel Messi took HGH for years to help him grow. It is barely ever mentioned in the media. I'm not sure what to think myself but people are beginning to make comparisons to Lance Armstrong.
Is it wrong?
Has it made him a better footballer?
Should an independant group (not FIFA) be investigating?

You'll soon see there are 2 very split Messi camps.
The Messi love in crowd say it shouldn't matter, it was taken as a child to help his health, nothing to do with his football and we should admire his genius.
The Messi haters say he's a sportsman who took an illegal drug, when and why shouldn't matter. He wouldn't be the player he is today without it (as he'd be under 5 foot) so it's totally wrong that he is allowed to "cheat" and get away with it.
I stay out of it, firmly on the fence, it gets pretty heated considering he doesn't play for United or one of our direct rivals.

Pretty much my attitude except i can't believe someone like USADA hasn't had an opinion yet. Are they scared of messing around with a current player. Will they wait until he's finished when it will be easier to discredit. or do they not care because Messi has been open about it & not lied. It all just seems unfinished to me.

Don't think USADA have any jurisdiction over football outside the US do they?? Not a bloody clue. Is it only FIFA? i know they investigated & the outcome was they discovered messi used HGH even though they everyone already knew that. If he wasn't their golden boy & they wanted to go after him they couldn't anyway because they couldn't organise a root in a brothel. Barcelona would just laugh at them. Sounds like i have an agenda but i don't. It just seems hush hush to me. I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist.

I know FIFA and WADA are working together, but i thought FIFA had their own system.
There has been alot of friction between UEFA and WADA over their "system" as UEFA and co think its against EU regulations.
Altho there was talk of football being removed from the olympics if FIFA and the rest didn't sign up to WADA's system

Yeah, they are arguing that the system violates Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights in that it breaks European Union privacy laws.

Yeah, they are arguing that the system violates Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights in that it breaks European Union privacy laws. Hmmm. I always believed the best in football & the reason no-one was getting caught was because there was no way proffessionals would risk their careers by doing something so risky. But the rumour going round is that players are getting caught & banned but saying they are injured.

Maybe WADA want to randomly show up on peoples door step. That would be an invasion of privacy.

Basically IMO the arguments boil down on whether Messi's life or health would have been compromised if he did not take the hormones - we do not fully know the extent of his condition, so it's difficult to say whether or not it's considered cheating to some of us, or at least to me.
Personally, I sit on the fence on this one without any further evidences. Not a Messi hater, nor lover. I enjoy watching him when I get the chance, but I don't particularly look out for him. I only like to watch United play lol.

There have been a few cases around the world - i'd say the biggest would be Maradona at USA 94, but by and large footballers aren't largely tested. The use of performance enhancing drugs seems low but i'd say there isn't enough collaboration between governing bodies - FIFA, UEFA, the various International FA's to know for sure. There was a case down under in 2007 too

I'm also not a hater or lover of Messi.
