There was certainly press speculation liking us with Thaigo, but I wasn't aware we had made an actual bid which was presumably turned down. It's also pretty rare for our failed bids to become public knowledge. Got any sources Ratbag?
I was against the idea when it came up the first time, and I'm more so now. It's been one year and Xavi and Iniesta are that little bit older, and if Thiago still isn't seen as an option for Barca then I'm not so sure he should be considered an option for us. Either Barca don't think he's good enough or they believe if he does become good enough he'll pull a Fabregas and wander off home when mommy calls him for dinner. The only way Thaigo comes and stays is if he's not good enough, in which case we shouldn't be interested.

It doesnt mean he isnt good enough WK, it is Xavi and Iniesta after all and neither show any signs of easing up.Thiago is a huge talent but a CM he is not, as he doesnt have the workrate required, maybe a reason for his lack of game time considering the pressing Barca do.Thiago would be great in the hole but we are well stocked unless we`re selling Rooney.

No one would give Kagawa a shot in front of Carrick with Rooney and RVP in front of them? I would

Well, all four of them have to play next week in the Derby but I'd try Kag and Wayne swapping a narrow left position. I'd actually be tempted not to start any of our wingers next week, such has been their wretchedness.

Its obvious that Fergie has been doing anything and everything to try and get the 3 in form its just not happening. Not like City have fantastic wingers either. Ill take Carrick Cleverley Welbeck Rooney Kagawa RVP

Yeah, that would do for me. Maybe Young instead of Welbeck? Young occasionally does something but I wouldn't argue that one too much.

what i like about young is he's very solid, he's unlikely to attempt stupid flicks and tricks and he works hard and is workmanlike in his approach. if he could start hitting the net like he has done in the past it would be good

Really like the idea of Thiago, but only if it's on the cheap. All the youngsters in the U21s and U18s are playing quick, clever, one touch stuff, but with a more Unitedesque directness about it. Along the lines of what Kagz kept trying against Sunderland, but few others in the side seemed to pick up on.
Thiago, from what I've seen of him, would fit well with Kagz and Welbeck ahead of him and Clevs by his side. If we could ship out Ando, who even I'll admit is a luxury these days, and get the lad in for next to no cost, then I'd be well chuffed. Send Powell on loan to a prem side so as not to stem his development...
Leaves us with similar options to now, except with a squad player who's hopefully good for more than the odd 70min stint...

he is a very good technical player. if we met his buyout clause of 25 million quid, then it would be a bargain if he has to stay in the long run. but, my concern is that when Xavi gets too old, then they will come calling for Thiago and all the noise will start coming from the Barca hierarchy about Thiago being one of their sons and how much he belongs in Barca.
but, if Thiago is capable of seeing past all that, then i would love to see him at United. he isnt what he need the most. i feel we need a box to box midfielder, and Thiago is a technical playmaker, but he is young and very talented, and Sir Alex is probably looking at him. if wants to go to the 2014 World Cup, then he is going to have to leave Barca.

Seems he is on offerr..... sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/manchester-united-given-huge-nudge-as-barca-slap-25m-target-on-thMundo Deportivo's first four pages today are dedicated to Barcelona putting Thiago Alcantara, 22, on the market. The Catalan club apparently want rid and are prepared to sell him for just €25m, which by today's standards is a bargain. His buy-out clause is €90m but Barcelona are so keen to reduce the size of their squad, and raise funds for other deals, that they want a quick deal. He's one of several who are likely to be facing the exit but Mundo's insistence is perhaps the biggest splash on a player leaving so far. Manchester United have been linked repeatedly over the last couple of years, with The Daily Mail perhaps having the most recent mainstream story which said that the Old Trafford club were leading the race for him. He's struggling to get a game at Barcelona and with new imports from La Masia he could even find himself usurped by younger players. Rafinha, his younger brother, could have a big future but the name on everyone's lips in Barcelona is Gerard Deulofeu and if he finally signs the contract he's had shoved in front of him repeatedly then he'll be fast-tracked. From Thiago looking like the future of Barcelona, he's been pushed back somewhat and could miss out on Spain's World Cup squad for next year's tournament in Brazil. He's already friends with David De Gea (isn't everyone?!) from his days with Spain's U21 side and, according to Transfermarkt, he shares the same agency as Danny Welbeck. It's not an agency Manchester United have had issues with, which always helps. Mundo explain that whilst Thiago was something of a favourite for Pep Guardiola, it's changed under Tito Vilanova. Tito prefers Cesc Fabregas and is determined to prove that he is the future of the club's midfield area, with the growing realisation that Xavi cannot continue forever. David Moyes rocking up with his arm around Thiago Alcantara would be a good start at Manchester United and, if Mundo's huge spread is correct, then it's certainly possible - and all at a good price. At that price he has to be worth a look, surely?

Im sceptical about him, still very young. He's another midfielder that plays in between the lines like a kakawa or rooney type player. I think we need something dare I say more like Fabregas

Graeme Hunter from talksport reckons we're in 'pole position' for his signature saying we purposely waited for the Fabregas move as we knew it would compromise his position in the team.
