Was last seasons injury ever properly sorted? He had surgery after the World Cup but seemed to come back very quickly. I mean he’s vital but I’d have preferred him to have another week or two. Aye. Another week or two wouldn't have hurt. Pereira was doing just fine out of position.

We’d have beaten Burnley anyway, he’d have been held out of Serbia’s game and would have had an extra 3 weeks.

It's a fair stance to take, I'd say...he needs resting now...we can manage without him...we may even be better...

That reads like a fan wrote this. Maybe even someone on this board. Matic has been slow and wasteful for most of his time here. Its what he does. Problem is, he does not have Kante running around for him. Its obvious this season due to Matic somehow downshifting to an even slower gear.

I disagree. Matic was really good up until the spring. He reminded us what a great midfield general looks like, something we’ve not had since peak Carrick/Scholes.
However, once the wheels came off he’s been very ordinary and looks absolutely shattered. I thought he did ok on Sunday up until that terrible moment for their goal, which is frankly inexcusable at any level. At 30 I thought he might retire from International football to help his Utd career but he didn’t. He still knows how to play the game but his body isn’t willing. I’d be starting to get Fred involved more and more and sign the Lyon kid in the summer.

Don’t know how true this is but the Manchester Evening News are reporting that Matic will be ‘released from the club’ at the end of the season.
Looks like he’s on his bike next May.

Means we definitely need reinforcements in midfield...

A Mourinho signing. 40 million quid for fairly good 18 months. Looks done now. Purely short-term thinking

Yeah, definitely need 2 midfielders next summer. 3 If Pogba goes. Two creative, one holding. Going to be an expensive window. Hopefully the funds are there for a marquee signing like Sancho as well as the required midfield reinforcements.
