Anyone see his goal vs Porto ? Yeah, great strike. I remember reading an article about him where they were saying he was a really talented as a kid, think he broke into playing in the league in Serbia when he was 16. He's around 24 now so he fits the age bracket we'd tend to go for. |

Strootman is head and shoulders above Matic, in terms of overall benefit we would receive by signing him. plus, he is more proven and established, has skippered Holland and has become a key player for them. strootman is almost rivalling cleverley as the most overhyped player on this board, i'm not dismissing that he's any good, but his name gets thrown about by people who have barely seen him get a kick. dutch midfielder from PSV linked with United? YES, we'll have some of that. [not saying this is the case with you personally, just a generalisation] |

Dutch midfielder from PSV, a club we've obviously bought some great players from. i've seen people talk him up as the answer on this basis alone, having not seen him play, and not even knowing what sort of midfielder he is. [first he was hyped as a keane, then as a more attacking mid] i've never seen him play, so i have no opinion of him, other than it's annoying when players like him get hyped up by people who haven't actually seen them. on the other hand, if someone has seen him play as a few no doubt will have then they are the people to ask. |

in even simpler terms, a dutch midfielder captaining the national side at 22 and being linked with United is worth a bit of excitement [rather than hype as you put it] - yes that does sound good to me - but the hype across the board and his name popping up all over the place had gone a bit OTT for a player the majority haven't watched. it's quietened down significantly since then

Sure, I get where youre coming from but you also have to keep in mind that there are people that have seen him play. I've watched a handful of games he's played for the Netherlands and I've seen bits of about 7-8 PSV games and he's really got the world at his feet. Significantly, he looks a leader.

I've seen Strootman maybe 4 full games and very extended highlights in another. Not really enough to tell I suppose but you get a feel for a player. I like him but I'd prefer to have seen him say as many times as I saw Kagawa before we bought him. Tatty on the other hand doesn't rate him and I respect his opinion.

Not really enough to tell I suppose but you get a feel for a player. you certainly do. i respect that, and also jay and anyone else who's seen him. i only saw Kagawa play one full game for Dortmund before i was completely sold on him. it was the German cup final Ferguson went over for when they turned over Munich, everything Dortmund did went through him. Strootman is good , no nonsense falsh in the pan Player from what i have seen. Given i don't regularly watch , i have tried to make sure that i do from time only cos we were rumored to be interested in him. But comparing him with Keane is a bit too much. He is good and direct and hence my liking for him.
But then i had the same hope about Anderson too and didn't think RvP would be coming to us or be of such Impact either

Might check out a bit of the Benfica- Fener game tonight to see what this lad is all about. Gonna check out the 2nd leg next week, to have another look at Matic. Should be interesting to see how he gets on as they're behind in the tie. |
