He has this knack of breaking through with pace from midfield. This for me is what we've been lacking and badly need. We've not really had anyone who can collect a ball and power forward with it (bar Anderson on the very odd occasion) for a while now. Would make a big difference in our midfield and from how you've outlined his other attributes, it sounds like he'd be a perfect player for us.

Absolutely. I mean Matic was incredibly impressive last night. He burst through on another run towards the end of the game where I thought he was going to score. You'd also say he's quite a physically imposing midfielder, great skill set this guy has. He'd suit us perfectly. He's a better player than I thought when I watched him first.

I wouldn't mind Newcastle being relegated as I think Cabaye would be a good buy for £10m. I completely forgot about that. If they go down there'll be a few bargains to be had out of there, especially, Sissoko and Yanga-Mbiwa, in addition to the competition for Cabaye, Tiote, Cisse and co. I'd take Sissoko in a heartbeat, no doubt about it. Actually, come to think of it, we should hope they go down - Sissoko would be a brilliant signing. Box to box, strong in the tackle and a handful going forward in the way that he runs into space. I've got a lot of Newcastle fan friends and actually they say Sissoko has been pretty shit for them. Great in his first couple of games, but since then shocking. I don't watch much of Newcastle so don't really have a strong opinion on him myself, but the only player they have who the fans (well, my friends who are fans, I can't speak for all of them) rate highly is Ben Arfa. Cabaye and Collocini get praised as well but the general feeling is that they haven't been as good as last year. They really don't have time for Tiote (can't pass to save his life) and Cisse (misses a load of chances). But again, this is just an opinion of a small number of, quite pessimestic, fans.

Yeah, I was keen on Tiote but that was about it. Ben Arfa is good but seems injury prone and, in France at least, was a stroppy git.
But not now. Newcastle are shit. Not one player would improve on what we already have.

I was actually for Cabaye ,but he seems to have gone back a bit this season. But then again the entire Newcastle team seems to have ,pity that they aren't getting relegated though

Matic was impressive last night. Just saw the 2nd half but he really drove them on. Stupid money being quoted but a fine player.

Considering Matic's age and the type of player he is I hope we do pursue him. Fergie effectively said if we could bring in somebody who'd improve us we'd push the boat out to get them. Of course we shouldn't be held to ransom but if it meant we'd have to pay a bit extra to land Matic, it would be worth it all things considered.

Just a reminder guys, Matic will be playing for Benfica tonight against Chelsea, if you fancy another look at him.
Europa League final in Amsterdam.

Very impressive in that first half. One particular run from that took him past 2 or 3 from inside his own half got me wide-eyed.
