Might have to contact the club before any purchase mind just to make sure that its ok to do otherwise your wasting a lot of money. yeah i expect the best way to go about it would be to have it delivered to the club who can see that it gets to Fergie. will need to do a bit of phoning around and organising, shouldn't be a problem.

True although to be fair you could probably put a bottle of wine is a box, label it "FAO: Sir Alex Ferguson", pop it in a post box and it'd get to him!

If it's not already obvious, I'm 100% in. Fergie has given us all so much enjoyment, so I'm only too happy to thank him in this small way.
As already's been said, let's get a new thread started on this. We can get the money then choose a wine that fits our budget. Just remember that the individual messages would probably cost extra. And contacting the club to let them know what we're doing would be best. I'd bet quite a few parcels get lost in transit.

Stew or peter ndlovu, [aka one-love], can you make the thread as another announcement thread so everyone has a chance to spot it and contribute - ta.

also, do we..
1)get a list of names and a set amount each person intends to contribute, total it up and buy the best we can get for that money
or 2) identify the bottle, get a quote for that, the postcards and the delivery, and divide the total between the contributers?
i'd lean towards 1, because people are free to contribute a fiver if they are hard-up or a little bit more if they can, and it's not a contest lads, no pressure.

Couple of tit-bits I've found, perhaps bear them in mind:
Manchester United manager sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that he has developed a passion for the finest wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Speaking to Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Scot said that the top French wines, such as those from Bordeaux and Burgundy, are his favourite styles and remain the best in the world.
And from Alex himself:
"The best French wines are still the best in the world, but Italy has some fantastic ones. I am a fan of Tignanello Antinori, also Ornellaia, Sassicaia, Brunello di Montalcino. I prefer the Tuscan wines, but I also appreciate those from Piedmont.
The rest of the world also has some fabulous wines, in Australia [Shiraz Penfolds Grange], Chile [Concha Y Toro Don Melchor], Argentina [Malbec], Napa Valley [Screaming Eagle]."
