simplest way i guess would be to nominate a top man from the forum, get the cash to him and have him deliver it to the club. I have a Paypal account I've never really used we could all contribute money into, then buy the wine with that account? This is a fantastic idea by the way. |

www.yapp.co.uk/Did a quick Google search and found this place. It was recommended as one of the top 10 (3rd) online wine shops by the Independent. Number one on the list has shops in the South of England. Don't know if this effects deliveries as I moved on to the next before investigating thoroughly. No2 on the list is undergoing a refurbishment, so they don't have a full stock, or at least can't say exactly what they have. This place looks like it has a good selection. I called them and asked about the practicalities of making a card. I explained that it is being written by several people online and that it would need to include quite a few personal mesages. Unfortunately they are unable to do this in one big card, but would be able to send individual postcards with personalised messages from each person. What we would need to do is place the order and in the field marked 'messages' or 'notes' or whatever, just mention that we've sent a separate email with all the individual messages. We would then need to send all the messages in one email, which would then be turned into separate postcards from each of us. The guy I spoke to told me to send the email to him at sebastien@yapp.co.uk _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ That's the best I can come up with. Unless someone has a better idea. I also think that's as far as I can go with this. I don't really want the responsibility of having to organise the rest of it, but would of course be happy to contribute my fair share. It doesn't help that I have absolutely no clue when it comes to wine. If it doesn't make me puke up red shit it's a good one in my book.

Perhaps going into too much though here but if your looking at a bottle of wine, why not get a customed label to go on it from us to him. Or is that looking a bit too much into it?

If it's a really good bottle of wine (and if everyone even gives a few quid, it bloody should be) you don't want to be messing with the label really. Good thought though. |

It was a good idea, but again, it's the practicalities of it. And like Bestie says, if it's a good wine, it'd be nice for Fergie to know. We don't want to give the man a bottle of cheap plonk.
Though I quite like a label that says something like;
From everyone from RoM - we like a good whine.

I've just sent an email to the wine merchant i use for some advice on what to get, told them a budget of around £100 - is that too much? Will let you all know in soon as i get a response. However the place Dan found looks like a good bet if they send a message etc

i don't see that £100 is too much, if 10 of us went in with this it's a tenner each, and then i can easily see 15-20 people being interested.
lets get a list of those who are putting in, in a seperate thread if necessary to give everyone a chance to notice and contribute - work out what everyone is willing to put in and get the best we can for the money.

BTW i'll support anyone who takes on the repsonsibility for this, but i'm also willing to take on any of the work myself, i'm willing to do the phoning, collecting the money, doing whatevers needed. we'll do it all above board, the receipts / confirmation emails etc can be scanned and uploaded onto the site so everyone can see that their money is accounted for etc. we could set up a seperate email account that everyone has access to and can access the receipts.

Even if you could get 20 people that only £5 each. See what we can all do anyway. Might have to contact the club before any purchase mind just to make sure that its ok to do otherwise your wasting a lot of money. |
