yeah thing is even if we parade 3 or 4 big signings come the end of the summer there was always gonna be a kid as well. that's what we do, and it's no surprise that he's the first bit of business done because it's surely the most straightforward deal to sort out of all the ones we are persuing.

It's not as easy as finishing transfers before a major tournament. Complicated business these days. You think United are the only club looking for players? City and Chelsea changed the landscape of big money deals. I don't know much about this lad. Don't even know if it's confirmed yet.

You're right Willie, nothing official as yet.
Tatty's saying it's a done deal, as he understands it.

A replacement for Pogba? Seems our interest in Barkley is finished, if we sign this kid. Seen his stats. Impressive.

He probably is a replacement for Pogba to a certain degree.

He's still growing and has had some injuries because of it I believe.

And Pogba destroyed Barkley in a reserve game. This is from todays M.E.N:
United are set to sign Crewe starlet Nick Powell after his Wembley send-off next Sunday in the League Two play-off final. The 18-year-old has been tracked all season by the Reds as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to stock up on more potential. Newly-crowned Champions League winners Chelsea and Arsenal have also been keenly monitoring the progress of the England Under-17 international, who has come through the ranks at Gresty Road. But it is United’s history for promoting youngsters that looks set to sway the Railwayman’s £4m-rated Academy product. Powell broke into Alex’s first team last year but it has been this campaign that he’s really hit the headlines with 15 goals from 44 appearances. The impact from the goalscoring and creative midfielder saw Powell sweep the board at last month’s Gresty Road awards night when he won Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season. Crewe’s much heralded youth policy down the years has produced many graduates, including Geoff Thomas, Neil Lennon, Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson, Craig Hignett, Rob Jones and Dean Ashton – all of whom played international football. The club also revamped the careers of United cast-offs David Platt and Robbie Savage.
Nevertheless, Powell is being tipped to be the best of the lot. Crewe’s boss Steve Davis said: “Nick’s performances and goals have been right out of the top drawer. “He is one of those players who, when he tries something different and it comes off, it is special to see. “It is something you don’t often see in this league and it is deserving of a much higher level. And that is where Nick will eventually end up.” His assistant Neil Baker added: “It will take a lot of doing, but Nick could be the best of the lot produced by this club. He is a special player. “Nick is more than just a great individual player, he works hard for the team as well. He may be better than any of them, and we’ve had some exceptional young players over the years.” In line with club policy, United have refused to comment on whether Powell will sign on for the Reds post-Wembley.
If they think he could be their best ever home grown player then this is a smashing deal for Utd.

Those names they list wouldn't be hard to be better than in fairness. Dean Ashton aside. Still, hopeful!

Despite his scouse-ness, Rob Jones was an outstanding full baack. And Platt was a very good player in his prime. The rest were so-so though.

^ Add Danny Murphy to that. If Liverpool had kept him, they could easily have gone onto bigger and better things.

Danny Murphy is mid-table level at best. So yeah, he could have stayed at Liverpool. Platt and Jones I'll give you as good players, but both are royally tainted.
