Ed Woodward "The Prince that was promised!" So will Ed take his flaming sword north of the wall to defeat the white walkers?

OK. You did well. Very well in fact. You deserve the kudos coming your way. So let's keep this version of Ed going. We like him. The other version? Not so much.

Mike Woodward and Mike Smalling have done very well.
Let's hope Ed and Chris don't escape from that basement

For me the difference is Mourinho's decisiveness. It seemed like the previous 2 managers had absolutely no fucking idea who they wanted to sign, while Mourinho clearly did his homework (which pretty much verifies that he knew he was getting the United job way before May 2016).
Anyhow, so much nicer getting our transfer business completed early and having the privilege of just looking at other clubs scramble for leftovers.

The way I see it, there's a strong correlation betweem the competence and authority of the managers Ed has worked with and his perceived success in the market.
Mourinho has come in and immediately we have an efficient and successful summer, so it's ptetty clear that if the manager is a capable footballing head he'd be able to keep up his side of the deal.

This. I think Woodward is too easily led by his manager. Moyes couldn't decide to stand or sit to take a piss and ends up shitting himself, so Woodward gave us a summer of nothing culminating with an overpaid panic buy. Van Gaal had an idea of what he wanted but was utterly misguided, and mostly talk no walk; Woodward produces a flashy couple of transfer windows that turn out to have very little substance. Mourinho comes in with an exact list of targets, and back ups, so Woodward gives us Pogba, Zlatan, Henry and Bailly.

I still maintain that Ed has only done a couple of deals where neither a) we just had way more money than anyone else or b) the player really wanted to go to United over everyone else.
Memphis was the only deal he had done before this summer where he both fought off competition and didn't overpay on what the player was generally viewed to be worth. Not sure if Ibra counts because it was a free transfer, but fair enough he had competition so I'll give that one to Woody. Mkhi wanted to go nowhere but here, but he was also at a good price, so half a point. Don't think anyone else was in for Bailly and he did pay a lot; he's definitely awesome, but it was a lot for an unknown. Pogba was finally the deal Woodward always dreamed of, but it was basically Raiola negotiating with himself.
Not saying every deal has to be hard fought and ridiculously cheap - of course not - just that very few required more than basic competency, which I'm not even sure he has. I'm not ready to forgive or forget, and I still think him returning to the commercial side with his tail between his legs, or just leaving altogether, is best for the club.

Just how utterly shit is Ed Woodward at his job? Alvaro Morata has done everything just short of arriving at Carrington with his wife and bags and Ed is still struggling to sign him. We all know if we do sign him it will be after we have totally capitulated and paid Madrid exactly what they asked for. This man has the negotiating skills of Theresa May. Sack the ticker and put him out of his misery.
