I haven't been truly excited about an international tournament since the '02 World Cup, and nothing has changed this year, but I do have fairly high hopes for the next crop of England players - which is probably an exercise in hope over experience. We have an abundance of good creative and attacking players coming through - the likes of Barkley, Powell, Ward-Prowse, Morrison, Hughes, Sterling, and maybe Ince, Redmond, Berahino and Zaha, and of course a few established players who are still fairly young, like Wiltshire and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Not all these players will be top class, but some will. However, I'm slightly concerned by the lack of quality in most other areas, keeper, centre back, holding midfield and 'No9' all look thin.
The good players we do have lend themselves to a high tempo, attacking style of play - I worry that Hodgson and Southgate aren't the people to get the best out of them, but with the right guidance they might actually be molded into a dangerous team. I'd like to see Glenn Hoddle brought into the England set up.

Watching England play has been like waiting for cream to curdle. I gave up with the Clough debacle and thus far it's been crap. They failed under Robbo and Wilkins, and under the class of 92. It's not the players it's the management ethos. The FA is like the German saying: the fish rots from the head.

The Squad
1. Joe Hart 2. Glen Johnson 3. Leighton Baines 4. Steven Gerrard 5. Gary Cahill 6. Phil Jagielka 7. Jack Wilshere 8. Frank Lampard 9. Daniel Sturridge 10. Wayne Rooney 11. Daniel Welbeck 12. Chris Smalling 13. Ben Foster 14. Jordan Henderson 15. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 16. Phil Jones 17. James Milner 18. Rickie Lambert 19. Raheem Sterling 20. Adam Lallana 21. Ross Barkley 22. Fraser Forster 23. Luke Shaw
England squad numbers have been confirmed. I know it doesn't really mean anything, but does this suggest Roy is planning on playing a 433? I certainly hope so.

England starting XI vs Peru: Hart; Johnson, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines; Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana; Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge
Impressed with Roy for going away from his 442 and for going away from the England manager status quo of Lampard and Gerrard duo. After he said this will be his template for the WC it's getting me a little bit excited.

Rooney has started on the left of a three behind Welbeck ...
Stretford has lodged an "unofficial" transfer request for Rooney to join Germany tomorrow.
