Wigan have gone into administration I haven't been paying attention. But that is a genuine shock.

Sad news. Only changed owners at beginning of June. They were always a financially stable, well run club under Dave Whelan.
Read yesterday that they were the most in form side in the Championship too. Taking themselves towards mid table from relegation places in last 10 games or so.

I don’t know how they managed to keep this under the radar. Normally my husband gets to know if someone is heading into administration before the press do because he works for one of the big banks and this is his line of work but this one caught him by surprise,
I suppose it all depends if the football league are more sympathetic given the current pandemic which obviously hasn’t helped any club.
Wigan is unlucky though with its geographical location. So many Liverpool, United fans around here who they can’t attract to the match day crowd.

True and it still struggles to shake the rugby town tag. Enjoyed their rise though. Went watching them when I was at school beating City in a league cup quarter final (I think). Place was buzzing. Also think their FA cup final win was the most I’ve ever cheered another club winning a trophy.

They had a great time even before the late goal which was the cherry on the cake. They made a weekend of it because of the train issues. A few of my City supporting relatives also went which was an added bonus. 🤣🤣

A few more people my age switched over when the got in to the PL(and have since quietly switched back). as said they just couldn’t get the local support to turn out even when they where in the PL which must have disappointed Dave wheelan after pumping all that money in. sad buts that’s football I suppose
