Ched Evans: Wales footballer's rape conviction quashed 5 minutes ago| Wales Footballer Ched Evans has had his conviction for rape quashed at the Court of Appeal in London, but will face a new trial.
The ex-Wales international was jailed in 2012 for raping a 19-year-old at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, Denbighshire. The former Sheffield United, Manchester City and Norwich player was released from jail in October 2014 after serving half of his five-year term. Mr Evans, 27, has always denied raping the woman. Speaking outside court Mr Evans's solicitor Shaun Draycott said: "Ched Evans is extremely grateful that the court of appeal has ruled that his conviction for rape was unsafe and should be quashed." The striker's case was referred to the Court of Appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates possible miscarriages of justice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, after new evidence emerged. Lady Justice Hallett, Mr Justice Flaux and Sir David Maddison heard submissions over two days from Kieran Vaughan QC, for Mr Evans, and from Eleanor Laws QC, for the Crown. Announcing the court's decision, Lady Justice Hallett said the judges heard "fresh evidence" during the appeal hearing on 22 and 23 March. She said: "In summary, we have concluded that we must allow the appeal and that it is in the interests of justice to order a retrial." The court quashed Mr Evans's conviction and declared: "The appellant will be retried on the allegation of rape." Mr Evans and former Port Vale player Clayton McDonald admitted having sex with the woman on 30 May 2011, but said it was consensual. Mr McDonald was acquitted of rape at their trial at Caernarfon Crown Court. Mr Evans has not been signed by a new club since his release from prison. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-36099522

Glad he's won his appeal. Hope he over turns the conviction aswell. Should never have been found guilty in the first place with the evidence that was produced.
The fact he's won his appeal shows that the decision was either rushed or mistakes were made.

This is no surprise to me. I always felt he was done over.
Evans has. (more likely), got friendly with this girl, who in my mind manipulated the situation. He probably thought he got away with a cheeky bit on the side without his GF finding out, until he got the knock on the door by the police, and has had to come clean with her that he's been unfaithful.... "Yes I shagged her. But I swear it wasn't rape" Kind of thing.
His GF must know him enough to fathom out whether he's lying or not, and the fact she's stood by him all the way tells me he's been duped by a money grabbing manipulative bitch. Very unlike Adam Johnsons case, who's missus split with him straight away.
Whatever this new evidence is that has triggered the rape charge to be quashed and win a retrial, suggests to me that the said bitch has it coming!
Just my opinion! Has been from pretty much the start, and now it's taking flight.
He'll never get his career back thats for sure.

Aye, will be interesting to see what this "new evidence" is. Must be good if they have overturned his conviction and allowed a retrial. Probably turns out he wasn't even in the country or something. You know how these Welshies all look alike *runs*

The fact that woman stayed with him after he cheated on here says more about her character than it does Evans'.

The fact that woman stayed with him after he cheated on here says more about her character than it does Evans'. Why does it? All I see is a woman who truly loves him and is willing to forgive him for cheating on her, (some women do actually give their cheating man a second chance. And visa versa for that matter). If it wasn't for the police turning up with the allegations brought against him, she would've been none the wiser. Now if she was to find out about his shenanigans through the grape vine for example, he would've lied through his teeth. Then if she found out categorically that he lied aswell as cheated, then she would've darted like a greyhound out of the traps and fucked him off. Evans was forced to admit it to her because he found himself in the grips of the law. Whether he's admitted to other instances of cheating I wouldn't know. She's shown she can forgive him for straying, but I doubt she would've done the same if she found he was a liar aswell. All she's done is shown her loyalty to him, and must believe he's told the truth that he committed no rape. I'm sure she isn't sticking by him for the money he earned as a footballer alone, as that's mostly been swallowed up in lawyer and legal fees. I bet he won't be going behind her back again. If he does, then he deserves to lose her. Because I doubt she'd be stupid enough to forgive him again. Now what's wrong with that?
